Yawning: Is it really contagious?

I was in the bus this morning and from where I seat, I saw a man standing yawned. Suddenly, the lady next to me started yawning too. Funny, I started yawning as well. I am all good, well-rested from the night and all energized. But still, I yawned. It got me thinking on whether yawning is really contagious. I read somewhere that yawning could be because of too much oxygen. So I thought maybe the bus where I was in this morning got lots of oxygen. But is it? Have you ever experienced the same thing, that when you saw someone who yawned, you suddenly felt like yawning?

I have never experienced this before. I even can't remember the last time I yawned.
