The Other Shoe Dropped (or as they say....everything comes in threes)

Happy Monday Everyone! it's a sunny start to this Monday morning but later today we might be getting a mixed bag of tricks (rain, sleet, snow). I've been getting weather alerts on my phone but it could just be surrounding areas and maybe we won't get anything at all.
Well. yesterday the other shoe dropped. They say things come in threes and when I had two back to back problems here (water heater and the microwave) I was hoping that was the end of it.
My daughter went to get something out of the freezer in the garage and there was water all over the floor. The freezer passed away quietly without warning. Of course it was filled to the top.
Murphys Law is a beast because it could have conked out before we filled it with a mega grocery shopping. We did a huge Sams Club and a supermarket shopping right before the weekend.
We couldn't save anything so this really hit below the belt.
With all of this months expenses we're going to have to wait to replace the freezer.
I'm really hoping nothing else happens.

When you do replace your freezer, get an alarm for it. It will go off with a beeping noise to warn you if it's not working properly. I finally broke down and got one, too.
Mother Nature is having a temper tantrum today, I think. Be safe, I am so sorry you lost all that food.

I didn't even know you could get an alarm for the freezer. Thank you for the advice. I'll definitely get one because I wouldn't want this to happen again.
Hope you are safe with all those tornado sirens going off

Illinois had 7 tornadoes by 10:30 this morning, very weird weather for February.
Yes, you can get one and it is reassuring to know. Mine has a back up battery, too.

@MarieCoyle the news at noon was showing the tornadoes. Hurricanes and tornadoes are usually more likely with warm weather I would think. This winter really has been crazy

Big ugh!!! I'm so sorry about all that food - that is truly upsetting. It is a reminder to me that I really need to use up what we have in the freezer . . . I need to quit the pandemic stocking mentality . . . it's a waste to just let it all sit there too. Hope you can get a new freezer soon!!

@Marilynda1225 I just can't get out of that mode . . . it has become routine, hasn't it? I can understand folks still need to stock up for winter and weathers. I like having everything I need at home . . . the less I have to shop, the better (it's also still about public people exposure at this time). With it being the end of the month, I truly hope that is the end of the big expenses too .

@much2say I avoid crowded places and still tend to do a store pickup or delivery. Covid is still out there and I don't want to catch it.

I like the way you said "pandemic stocking". I'm still in that frame of mind along with the whole 'stock up for winter" mentality. I'll replace the freezer but not right away. This month has been too expensive already and I'll just make do with the freezer in the refrigerator

@Marilynda1225 - Last year we had to spend a lot of money for broken stuff.

@LadyDuck it's weird how when one thing breaks other things follow making it very expensive to replace it all.

Oh, that's terrible! We recently lost over half of the food in our upright freezer in the garage. Most of it was venison my husband killed and cleaned. Sure did hate that. Will your home owners insurance cover any of it? Ours won't, though.
I hope this is the last of your problems for a good while.

@Marilynda1225 We really hated to lose it. It's not something you can buy at a store.

It didn't even cross my mind to see if my home owners would cover the food. I just tossed it all out
That's a shame that you lost your food to a freezer disaster too. I'm sure the venison hurt the most to lose.

Yup it was jammed full and I am bummed to have lost all that food especially with the price of everything these days.
Meanwhile I woke up to all that white stuff outside so I think I got your order once again

@just4him glad that you got lots of snow. Mother Nature really didn't have to share but at least it's only a few inches. I have to admit it looks pretty.

Yes, the price of food is ridiculous! I can't imagine how much money you lost with the loss of all that food.

"The freezer passed away" Nice way to say it - such respect and why not. We all depend on it and sorry so much of your food had to be discarded.

Oh that is heart-breaking with the price of food.
I am so sorry that this happened when it was filled like that, a freezer never konks out when we have just a little bit in there does it?
We are in the thick of getting a bit of winter weather.
My hubs had to come home early from our son's place and it took him 90 minutes to get home when it is usually a 40-60 minute drive.
We had alot of sleet for about 45 minutes around 1pm, then heavy snow and high winds.

@Marilynda1225 This last order of beef seems to be lasting us quite a long time.
We are eating less and eating more fish and chicken.
The hubs stayed home today and got caught up on some paperwork that he needed to finish from his training course that he put on last Saturday. He really did need the whole day uninterrupted.

I was thinking of you and your full freezer with all your meat, etc. It certainly was a shock to find our freezer konked out. It was probably out for awhile before we realized it.
We got a few inches of snow overnight so today looks pretty outside but I could have ended the momth without any of that white stuff. Sleet makes things so much worse and I'm glad your hubby got home safe and sound from your sons place.

What a catastrophe! One house-sit (several actually) had huge freezers filled with all sorts of goodies. One place was affected by bushfires and I always wondered if they were able to save the food in their freezer once the power went out.

I hope the people where you house-sat were able to save food from their freezers. Freezers are a blessing until the power goes out.
I'll have to make do with the freezer part of the refrigerator for awhile before I can replace the freezer.

@Marilynda1225 Our fridge has quite a decent freezer compartment and, as there is only the two of us, we don't really need another freezer. I can see it would be handy in your case with other family nearby.

It's been an expensive month for me but it could be worse. I won't be able to replace the freezer for awhile but will just make do with the limited space in the freezer part of the refrigerator.

That is so very discouraging. I will also say to make sure your freezer is plugged into a surge protector. That is what I have been told. Then it will not get knocked out if there is a power surge.

That's true things happen in threes. Just in the past week, we had to take one of our cars in to the mechanic. It needs a new alternator. Then, our dishwasher needed a new part. Then a two and a half year old pressure washer my husband bought, broke. He really wants to try and find a new part for it. He doesn't want to throw it away if it can be fixed.

When it comes time to replace it I"m going to look for one with an alarm. It certainly would have been handy to know the freezer was going.
