Don’t celebrate their birthday? Today is my husband’s birthday but he doesn’t want to celebrate at all. Not even a Facebook greeting, he forbids us to make. I respect his wishes but deep inside I want to do something special for him. Our kids asked him why he doesn’t want to celebrate his birthday and it boils down to his childhood. He grew up not having money so his parents couldn’t afford a cake or a simple dinner for his birthday. He is used to it and no matter what I tell him to change his mind, it just isn’t enough. Anyway, I just thanked God for the life He bestowed to him. And may he have more birthdays to come.
Photo is my birthday gift for him because he likes to cook.

I can relate to your husband. Me too, I don't want a celebration and my husband asked me also why, and it's true, it has something to do with my childhood. My parents raised us like that, my mom cooked me special food and a gift but no celebration.

I also don't want to celebrate my birthdays anymore, but my mother still insists that I should somehow celebrate at home... Unlike your husband, my mother used to throw parties when I was still young and she would invite many visitors - my classmates, band mates, teachers, parents and her friends... That went on until I graduated in elementary.
But I remember, the foods were just simple and my mother was the one who was in charge of cooking and all that...

Birthdays were not celebrated in my parents house and my in-laws family but my husband and me celebrated each other's birthdays and our children's too. My sons celebrate my birthday now and I their's.

@sol_cee Someone who is adamant in not celebrating his birthday, you can't do anything. No one celebrated my or my husband's birthday before our marriage too.
