Peter and Rufus

Peter went on his second expedition today. Its a bit chily and breezy out. Rufus wanted to jump on the exciting kitten so he got in some more 'leave it!' schooling. Peter did well. He only tried to roll his vest off once. Next time we go out I plan to attach the super long dog lead to his vest. The kitty leash that goes with the vest is not very long. Peter needs more room to get out and explore and run if he likes. Birds flying over and birds twittering startled him cause its probably been a while since he has had birds that near. I think he kind of looks like a ferret when he is out in the big world.

Oh wow, leash training a cat? Good for you. He looks like the right age to start

@FayeHazel Peter kitty won't be leash trained like Rufus dog. He is just figuring out that wearing a vest won't be too awful if he gets to go outside.

@FayeHazel It depends on the kitty and his particular personality. I put a collar on Beau Teak our older Siamese and wow!! the fireworks. He actually threw himself against a wall. Just cause he had a collar on. He also is a rescue so who knows what having a collar on meant to him. I sure got that collar off him quickly. Poor Beau.

@sallypup Ah good luck. I tried with a couple of (adult) cats. Yeah... that didn't go so well ... but then they were adults already

@shaggin We have a big lot for being in town. Plenty of space for Peter to explore. I'm looking forward to having him out with us when we garden this summer.

@sallypup aww you are such a good fur momma. Do you have to worry about ticks there? They are terrible here. Within 15 miles of my home seems to be the heaviest with them out of all the places I have hiked etc. I’ve walked down my sidewalk not even in grass and gotten them on me. Snow covering the ground and still got one on me. My husbands beagles and my sisters dog just got them on them and the ground was covered with snow too. I don’t think anyone believed me when I told them that before until they saw it for themselves.

@shaggin I hope no on ticks. They're so ugly and nasty. I'm sorry you have such horrid issues.

You might want to make sure he's comfortable in his vest, first. But, good that he's enjoying going out.

@kaylachan When is a cat comfortable in a vest? For the greater good he must wear it. I did check that he is not being pinched.

@sallypup When they don't try to get out of it. They or he just needs to get used to it.

It's good you're getting him used to this. He is sure to enjoy being out of doors. I can see the Rufus is quite like Russell that we looked after.

@JudyEv I think Rufus has the Heeler body conformation. Just not the usual coloration. Russell must have been fun to babysit.

@JudyEv More than once someone has hesitantly asked me if Rufus is part Heeler?! Dingo?!

Such a sweet photo. I know they both enjoyed their time outside. I am sure the birds did startle him. They can be very noisy.

Such a good kitty. Rufus will learn, or get slashed.

Peter probably really enjoyed it, but he might start bugging you for a walk 20x a day. No way am I getting Nico a vest like that, he would for sure want to be going out, plus he would get full of fleas...around these parts, or worse, ticks. Better to keep him inside.

@snowy22315 Yikes on those pests. I mainly bought the vest for summer- when we're outside more and gardening etc. Peter won't have to stay inside.

Sounds like both need exercise. Then they would be too tired to be very rowdy.

Such a sweet photo! He almost looks like a small dog and will do very well the more he's out amongst the birdies. Doodles used to walk with a harness and eventually got used to walking without one. He was very good at obeying commands. I still miss him every single day.

They look so cute. It’s the first time I have heard of leash training with a cat.

maybe the cat is not used to the vest, usually cats are very happy to play outside, play, run and roll in the grass

@Nurlia I live on a pretty quiet street but sure don't want my cat to get run over so he will wear the vest when he goes outside.

Hmmm, could be but ferrets don't have big ears although Peter does have a kinda long body.
