Oil Spill in our seas

There is a developing situation in one of our island provinces when it was reported that a ship sank and its oil leaked over the water, affecting a number of nearby islands. The environment, health, and tourism are all suffering. Tourism has been put on hold, notably at the impacted beaches, which are currently unavailable to visitors due to the oil disaster. Health is also impacted because it is difficult to breathe there due to the odor. Finally, because it pollutes the water and eventually causes the flora and wildlife in afflicted places to die, the ecosystem is also severely impacted. Although the local governments are making every effort to clean up the shorelines, the problem is spreading to other regions.

That's sad, aquatic life is the one who will get affected the most because of the oil. I hope things get resolved soon there.

Indeed it has been several days and the situation seems to be worsening as they could not contain the spreading of the spill to other places.

@RebeccasFarm Yes I just very concerned since the report says the oil spill is not detected to other places that it is far from the incident. It only means the spread is not contained anymore.

I also hope that everyone from the government to the shipowner would do to prevent the spread to other places.

Yeah, you've received it there. As of now, they haven't actually released the news that transpired at the end of February, which makes it appear like everything is moving slowly here. After the ship sinking incident was reported, they stayed silent. It wasn't until recent days that they resumed reporting on the oil spill, by which time it had already reached the coasts and was preventing fisherfolk from leaving the seas.

@rsa101 The authorities are always responsible to create even more problems. Should they have taken action immediately it would have been better.

That has happened here, too. It's so important to have cleanup done as soon as possible. Are the owners of the ship being held responsible?

That is true I do not know if they would be able to do it since this has been going on since last Feb 28 and it is only now that the oil spill has reached the shores that they started making news about it.

@rsa101 That truly is awful. I guess they can only cleanup what they see. Many volunteers are needed to help, too.

For now I know all residents near the shore are helping in their own ways but of course it is always not enough to really stop the oil from coming to their shores.

@RubyHawk Actually, I feel bad for the damaged coastal areas since I know that they are still pure because pollution hasn't even touched them, and now they have to deal with the massive effort of cleaning up this mess.

It is catastrophic. The national government should step in and do all measures to contain the spill because everyone could be affected. Livelihood would be severely impacted. Our fishermen should also be given alternatives and businesses be aided, perhaps with loans or ways to diminish the bad effects.

I really do not know how but it could be contained in one place at some point. But I know it takes a lot of effort and resources to do that.

The issue has not yet been solved as of this writing. As they are unable to fish there, it is still spreading to other coastal communities, which has an impact on many fishermen's livelihoods. Their health is also being impacted because it is difficult for them to breathe because the oil generates a bad stench around the affected locations.

Well they are not locked from their houses but they are constrained not to venture out in the seas to fish.

Oil spills are really bad news. They cause such a lot of problems and the damage can't be fixed in a short space of time.

I heard there were some efforts made to compensate them. But the effect of the spill has just gotten worst as many are already getting sick because of the spill.
