I'm sure we remember the protests which eventually led to the summer riots over the George Floyd murder at the hands of the police. Well, one weapon that was used during the ensuing violence was bricks, in addition to explosives. So, I'm going to use these examples for our next set of weapon titled songs.
Here we go... Comments, musings, and your own favorite weapon songs and trivia welcome.
1. "Another Brick in the Wall"- Pink Floyd
-"Dark Side of the Moon" was a must played LP when it came out in the 70's. And this band came down with another "ton of bricks, but in a good way, when they released the album "The Wall" in 1979. Those bricks in the wall became a #1 hit for the band.
Enjoy this GREAT VIDEO!!! Did you ever listen to either of these Pink Floyd albums?
2. "Thick as a Brick"- Jethro Tull
-An album with just one song on both sides of the record. And I loved every 40+ minutes thumbs up! Progressive rock at its best!
TRIVIA CHALLENGE
***Now for our trivia music challenge for those who like to play along. See if you can guess these selections. Words in "quote marks" provide valuable clues!
Name this week's tune, artist or facts:
1. This "brick song" was recorded by Elton John for his 1973 "masterpiece LP of the same name." The "tune's title" pays homage to "Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz," who traveled on a "very special colored road" to reach the Wizard. The beginning of this song title is a word that means the "opposite of hello." Put them together for this song which reached #2 on the charts.
-Do you know the name of Elton's brick song?
2. John Mellencamp wrote this nostalgic song about the good old days when he was a teen. It was a time when "holding hands meant something" and "our hearts were really pumping, yeah, yeah, yeah." The "tune's title" is the same as an "explosive firecracker" popular on July 4th. Although, it was really about the name of a dance club the artist made up. This firework is shaped like a "round shaped sphere" with a stem for a fuse, it is "similar looking to a dessert topping which goes on top of whipped cream in making a sundae."
-Can you name this explosive titled song?
3. This "disco classic" is about a woman with a "great body." In other words, she is built like a "___________" And if you remember the "nursery rhyme" with the" three little pigs," then you know "which pig had the strongest and best home." This tune showed the "funky" side of this group, but they were also known for some easy listening tunes by using "Lionel Richie" on lead vocals. He sang on their softer songs like "Easy" and "Three Times A Lady."
Fun fact- the song was not written by a male chauvinist but the wife of guitar/trumpet player William King.
-Do you know the name of this R&B group and their weapon-titled disco song?
Let's not "run into a brick wall" figuring out the answers. If you're stuck and need additional hints just let me know in your response. I'll be glad to supply one. Or, as The Staple Singers would say, "I'll Take You There."
Thanks for reading and responding to my music post!!! I will return with a new edition soon. Hope you can wait till then, lol. Stay tuned...

Yes, days gone by.... It's just another brick in the wall now for a very popular band.
Fun facts:
-Pink Floyd does not release songs from their albums as singles as they believe their music is best listened to as a theme concept. Their producer convinced them to release "Another Brick in the Wall (Pt 2) as a single, and the band relented, it became their only #1 hit.

As for the music and visuals, I only have one favorite this year, namely "falling in reverse - watch the world burn" where you will see an antivillain burning the whole earth. hard, rock, rap, even all elements of music can be said to be there.

1. Another Reggie Dwight song? I always thought it was humorous that “Honky Cat” was on the greatest hits album right before “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” because they are diametrically opposed to each other lyrically. “Stay at home, boy you gotta tend the farm,” then “you can’t plant me in your penthouse, I’m going back to my plow.” (Or plough as it was spelled on the lyrics sheet in the album.)
2. At this point I’d like to quote the great band the Bottle Rockets about the song “Cherry Bomb”: “I’ll puke if that jukebox plays John Cougar one more time!” (From their song “Indianapolis.”)
3. I don’t even want to THINK that Lionel Richie could have been associated with a song as great as “Brick ‘OWse” and then turned into that smarmy pop guy he was in the 80s. I’d bust him from Commodore right down to a seaman recruit for that!!!!

Thanks for that Country twanging "Indiana wants me, but I can't go back there."
Yes, EJ's lyricist Bernie Taupin was much more at home on a farm than in the city like the Rocket Man. 2 songs which reflect this sentiment...
From funky R&B to mellow pop was quite the transition for Mr. Ritchie. Well, he took that mellow sound all the way to the bank!
Great job on the trivia and musings as always FW...
