I’m Hoping for a Huge Hurricane

Not at all, but if we get one, I will feel more comfortable. Finally, the window company is here after waiting for city permits and HOA approval. We chose hurricane 5 level windows and doors, which is overkill for my area, but what the heck. In for a dollar, in for a pound. The noise is driving me insane and although they intend to do a complete cleanup, hubs and I will have our work cut out for us. They intend to do it all in one day, but it doesn’t seem possible. Heaven help us! At least we won’t need those cumbersome and hideous metal storm shutters anymore.

@CarolDM Hopefully. They were supposed to complete the work today, but still only have one window done. The clock is ticking and hubs and I will have a huge cleanup to do. Not only do I have a headache, but I wish I could climb in the dirt with Brendel

No storms until June to the end of November. It's the noise and mess right now that is making me crazy.

@DianneN I know about that. Renovations and any kind of work is always very noisy. It will be over soon. All worth it too.

I can’t stand the noise when people are working on the house either. I go away for the day and come back when I know it’s over unless it’s someone I don’t trust alone in my home. I really hope they get this all done in one day for you so you can take care of the cleanup and everything else tomorrow and not have to deal with more noise.

I was invited to spend time with my friend who lives down one floor, but there are too many strange men working here. Too many valuables to keep an eye on. Hubs told me not to worry, but there is no way he can keep an eye on the men. They are all over the place. I don't trust any of them and only one speaks English Thank you. The clock is ticking........ Now it seems I have two toilets to clean as well

@shaggin I just went into our bathroom for Tylenol, and the toilet seat was left up. Another reason why I don't like workers. I told hubs there is a special toilet for workers in the storage room out in the hall, but he told me not to be so nuts about it. Grrrrrrrr

They will be well worth it, and I'm glad you're getting them. We put them on our house the first year we lived here. And, while we never had a major hurricane, but things are much quieter, and it helps with heat and cooling.

@DianneN Trust me, I can understand. Due to the number of windows, size of the house and age they slated us for three days. Got it done in a day-and-a-half.

@kaylachan Wow! That's wonderful! I'm pleased to announce that they only have one door left to install and all the shutters to remove. Then hubs and I will begin our major cleanup. And I dislike cleaning with a vengeance.

Right now my entire condo is a dirty, noisy mess. They are supposed to finish today, but they only have one window in and are taking an hour break for lunch.

@Tina30219 I hope so. I can't live with this mess and noise for one more minute. They are halfway done now. 2 windows in, working on the slider and big window which has to hoisted up, and then one door to go. My husband can't even hear me when I scream into his ear. @ Tylenol are beginning to kick in.

@rakski They left when it was way past dinnertime, but will return for some finishing touches. Hubs and I cleaned last night and all morning, and have a lot more to clean. My headache is preventing me from continuing right now. BUT, the windows look great!!!!

I hope we don't get any, but we will now be better prepared if we do. I just want these men to go away already. They've been here for almost 10 hours and gave me a huge headache.

In my childhood, it was not a bad thing to have a huge hurricane. We call it typhoon here. Most of the time the typhoon won't bring much damages here. But once there is a typhoon, we don't have to go to school and this is why I like it

@youless It was summer. Every shop closed down and our plane home was delayed, because a plane from Taiwan landed, flipped over in the wind, and 2 people were killed

They should be back this Thursday to finish framing a door and for the inspection. It does look much nicer, but we are still cleaning the mess and will have to clean again on Thursday.

I'd prefer overkill too . . . one can never be too safe ! So did they get it all done in a day? It'll be worth it even if you have to put up with the noise and clean up for a bit .

No, they will be back to make another mess on Thursday when they come to finish framing around a door to the lanai and for an inspection. I must admit that the windows are beautiful and give a new look to the place. We will feel much safer when we leave to go home..

We're both dealing with noise and inconvenience at the same time. Hope they got those windows and doors installed as quickly as they said they would. I think you made a good decision getting new hurricane windows and doors.

Everything is in, but they have to return Thursday for an inspection and to frame one door. Hubs and I have been cleaning nonstop. That dust keeps settling all over the place, even though everything was covered by us and recovered with plastic by them. It really does look pretty and makes the place look new. Hope everything is done at your end.

So they say. At least we won't have to struggle with closing the shutters only having them opened by the people who care for our place. Sunlight prevents mold I've been told. Don't want that!

Hmmm, now you got me thinking. I have 2 windows I'll need to replace in a couple years, maybe I only need level 1 hurricane windows, it's not like we get the kinds of winds a hurricane brings.

Hello! I understand how important it is to have protected windows and doors in areas where there are strong hurricanes, so I'm glad that there are such windows. I also hope that the installation goes smoothly and hassle free. Ultimately, this should reduce noise levels and improve the overall safety of the home and family. Good luck with that!
