I Want a Divorce

My friends know how much I adored Doodles the cat. He was the smartest and most lovable cat I have ever had. He passed away on November 12th, 2019. I think of him every day.
Last night after dinner and before the play, we killed some time walking in our little town.
We wandered into a pet store and in a cage were two look alikes for Doodles. Doodles #2 and Doodles#3. They licked my finger, let me pet as much as was possible, and one gently nibbled my finger.
They are up for adoption, and I couldn’t take one without the other. Hubs refused. No cats for us. I’m still upset with him. I really think I need some kitties to love.

I think I can understand it. I am a cat lover. When I see a street cat or homeless cat, I will be happy. You can imagine my husband is besides me and feels jealous. I also won't have a cat at home unless everyone at my home agrees to it. Some people don't want to have a cat at home is not because they don't love cats, there will be many things to think about. Such as you have to be much more responsible.

I understand. Hubs and I discussed it again last night. He told me that he can't take the heartbreak of losing another pet, that it would be difficult transporting it back and forth from our house to our condo by plane, and that he's sick of cleaning the litter box 3+ times a day and vacuuming the dust and liter.

That is one of the reasons, and hubs also said that he can't bear losing another one. He also said that it would be a nuisance to travel with them on a plane, and our condo doesn't allow pets - he's on the pet committee. My son is more worried about us tripping over them. They both won the debate and the divorce is off the table.

No point in having pets if all in the household do not welcome them. Good Luck. I hope your husband will change his mind

@DianneN Your husband must have had a valid reason and glad that you are now convinced.

Maybe he's not mentally and emotionally ready. Pet less hits differently for everyone.

@DianneN - I know that pets can be a burden if we want to travel, but those kitties are so beautiful.
When we went walking the past Sunday, we "met" a few cats sunbathing in their garden. They all came out to rub my legs and purred. You had to see the face of my husband.

I'm sorry your hubby doesn't want another kitty but agree that it's hard to lose a furbaby...

It is a shame that your husband does not to adopt the two cats that look like your deceased cat.

@DianneN I hope so as well since I know the feeling of losing a cat or dog than you see the child version of your lost pet.

My son had pets when young but I am not much into that as I worry I will get too attached to them.
Your husband knows how much you miss Doodles even after three-plus years and obviously does not want to follow that route again. So he has your welfare at heart.

We had a discussion last night again. Hubs does have several valid points against having a pet now. Losing a pet, having to fly with one, pets not being allowed in our Florida condo, and the constant cleaning up after them. I'm beginning to accept that.

I understand how difficult it is when you have a desire to bring home an animal that reminds you of your beloved pet. But perhaps in the future there will be an opportunity to adopt new animals, and who knows, maybe among them will be someone who will become as close to you as Dudls. In any case, remember that your emotions are important and allow yourself time for grief and mourning.
