Feeling old/grateful my childhood was before the technology we have today

I was sitting at work waiting on my buddy to come back from OT and a little girl who sits nearby was reading an older book from either the 80s or 90s and she reads a part of it and she looks up at me and goes "A VCR?" and I laughed. She looked so confused. I then had to go into a lengthy explanation as to what that was. I even pulled a picture up on my phone to show her. She goes "Oooh". Nothing makes you feel old quite like being surrounded by younger people. I often forget I'm the oldest person in our classroom. The next oldest is the teacher who is six years younger than me. The other para and the student teacher and college students that come in are all in their early 20s and nothing hits home quite like talking about things and having them look at you like you're some sort of elder who is regaling everyone with stories from yesteryear. I remember telling the other para I felt old and she was like "you're not old" and I go I know this but I sure feel it when you all look at me like "what are you talking about?" whenever I bring up something from my childhood. It's crazy thinking about a time when the internet wasn't a thing (at least not for the average household) and then remembering when it did become a thing and how it has evolved over the years is just insane. Realizing how much has happened in my lifetime and I'm not even 40. It's just a lot to take in. It reminds me of listening to stories from my mom's childhood. Life never slows down and everything just keeps evolving. I love hearing about stories from my mom's childhood because it was just so different. I also love watching old movies because it just seems so different and interesting. A world without computers and the internet and everyone out having fun that didn't involve a lot of technology it just seems amazing to me. I love the idea of going skating or going out dancing. It was an innocent kind of fun that we just don't have now and I'm sometimes sad I never really got to experience it but then again my childhood was pretty amazing too and there still wasn't a lot of technology. I'm the last real generation to have a childhood not completely glued to a screen and to have a world where things were still kind of innocent compared to today and I'll forever be grateful for it. I just wish my son could have had the same. He gets kind of sad when I tell him stories from my childhood that he didn't get to experience it especially when I tell him what our mall used to look like. I so wish I could give that to him and to today's youth.

I feel you. I feel it now as I am living with the other tenants who are younger than me. I can feel that they are younger, but I just don't bother to tell them my age. I'm quite surprised that the first word is not "hi, nice to meet you" anymore. But 'what's your age?' Huh, 21st Century confused me so much

Things have changed just so much from when we were young - and even more so for me I'm sure as I'm even older.

Kids do not need all the newest things it is good for all of us to do without. It is good for them to just sit and read a book. It is good for them to not have technology in their life all of the time.
