Yes I'm Bored At Work

I got a new job as a teacher at an alternative school in October, shortly after my mom had a stroke and moved into a nursing home. Somedays are wild but others are extremely boring! The students work at their own pace on a computer based system so when they don't need help, or the usual teenaged drama is going on, unless I have grading to update I am bored silly. Its a great program for the kids but on some days I wish there was more for me to do.

Better to be making money and bored than bored and not making money.

@RebeccasFarm what else we can do. Either changes a job or adapt to the job.

CanĀ“t you tell them to close the computer and do some conversation on the subject first?

It happens jobs are boring. I work in a manufacturing unit and the same routine job makes me bored. Every day our boss shouts at us for achieving the output and productivity targets. The targets in the corporate are set as they can never be achieved.

The shouting boss sucks.
Mine is annoyed at me because I had to take 4 days off over 2 weeks. I'm half expecting them to attempt to write me up, but it won't work. Those days I took off were due to recovering from being physically attacked (I'm fine now), and police/charges were involved. My state has a law preventing employers from penalizing employees for taking up to 5 days off work after injury in a crime.

@Lolaze then as per the law you were right and your boss should have understood it. Also, I expect at least in schools where the kids are taught basic manners, they should have understood your problem with taking offs.
Yes, shouting boss sucks. Sometimes I don't like to go to work because of this boss, but I cannot help it because I survive on the earnings of my job.
@daddyevil is she from your place?

A few have been suspended for fights, etc. Most just fell behind due to virtual learning during COVID, life events, being a teen parent, or dealing with mental health issues.
They study everything they would at the regular school - math, science, language arts, social studies, and elective classes.
