I wrote about a tea-towel that I had bought as a souvenir. In the same box was this leather cover. These were popular for while to hold a writing pad but they weren’t terribly convenient. At least, this one wasn’t but I did like the tool work on it.
Many years ago, my sister and mother went to leatherwork classes and my sister did something a bit similar on the flap of a handbag. I was too young to join in the classes but I’d go along and, as the classes were held in a schoolroom, I was usually allowed to draw on the blackboard.
The classes were held in the evenings and there was a choice of subjects. It was called 'night school'.

That is lovely work...
In shop class when I was a Junior in high school, I made a wallet and a belt with a similar design. I don't remember what happened to the wallet but I wore the belt up until about ten years ago. Finally, the webbing woven around the outside edge finally started breaking so I bought a plain leather belt and threw the one I made away.

@JudyEv It must have been more of a 'thing' at one time. I have two leather bags inherited from my grandmother (via my mother). One has her name and address embossed on one side. They are just hanging around and sometimes the girls play with them. But funnily enough, one day I couldn't find a handy bag to rush out to the shop so I grabbed this one and no-one batted an eyelid in my local supermarket!

@Fleura That's a bit different for sure. I went to nightschool to learn woodworking but didn't get too far. Vince went later and made me some bookshelves which we're still using. Later, we both went to night school learning brick-laying. I was so looking forward to it but my back ached and ached which spoilt it somewhat.

I might put my loose recipes in it somehow and put it in the bookcase.

Isn't that lovely. I remember having these sorts of leatherworks when I was young.
Purses and wallets.

I can understand why you’d get that, because that is lovely workmanship.

That's very well done. It is amazing what people can create.

@JudyEv I used to have a lot of horse stuff. Slowly got rid of a lot as I got tired of keeping it clean

While in junior high school, during the summertime I would take summer classes at school, usually a couple of days a week. One year I took photography where we learned to develop our own film. I also took some cake-decorating classes and pottery-making classes. I enjoyed them all
I do remember learning to work with leather, like your picture, I think when I was in the girl scouts when I did that. I enjoyed that as well.

Yeah, that seems like it would be hard to carry around. I keep tiny memo notebooks which easily fit in my back pocket that I take on trips with me to write down orders and quote requests and other little details. This thing would be too bulky for such purposes, although it is nicely done.

I hope you will find some way to use it. Pure leather not matter in what form is expensive.

@JudyEv My husband picked bags for me but now I no longer go for them because I have become an animal lover. I even had one with crocodile leather

@allknowing I wonder if you can still buy goods of crocodile leather. I'm sure they were expensive but it would have been very lovely.

Maybe not useful as such but people would pay good money for that

@JudyEv I think you could do better than ebay...I just had a really quick look around and there's a market for older leather goods.
