A New Coffee Maker

United States
March 14, 2023 9:30am CST
Happy Tuesday Everyone! it's a rainy, snowy, windy day here today. Just plain yuck. Lately our coffee maker has been acting funny and the coffee isn't brewing very hot. So my daughter bought a new coffee maker and it came yesterday. She put the old pot in the garage and set up the new one. It looks really nice but I find it a bit intimidating. It's all digital. She gave me a quick lesson on how to work it (much more sophisticated than the old one) and I just nodded my head and said okay. All this digital stuff means I can't do anything without my glasses. No more coming into the kitchen and just pushing the start button. My daughter loves technology. I wasn't going to argue since she paid for the new coffee maker and I have to admit the coffee was nice and hot this morning. I certainly won't give up my morning coffee because of a few more buttons to figure out and maybe I'll just have to keep an extra pair of glasses in the kitchen. You KNOW I love my coffee

You could always go back to cooking it on the stove.

I could but that would be a pain. I tried that a long time ago and it just boiled all over the stove. I'll learn how to use this one OR maybe the coffee will already be made every morning when I come downstairs

My keurig has 3 buttons the far right is for the tallest cup the far left is the smallest cup. Simple definitely could be done even with eyes closed. I’m not a huge fan of all the digital things anymore either. I’m making my second mug of coffee now.

@Marilynda1225 that wouldn’t be fun. When this keurig breaks I’m going to get a narrow one like my dad has that doesn’t have the big water reservoir on the side.

@shaggin I hate clutter on my countertops but everything on them I use so getting a smaller coffee maker worked out good for me

My other coffee maker was easy too. It was a simple turn it on or turn it off. This new one is nice and takes up less room but I hate the fact that I have to put my glasses on to see the dang buttons. Half the time I'm half asleep when I stumble into the kitchen to make the coffee.

Oh boy,,,,well with all that tech, can't you just program it to have coffee first thing in the AM? That is what I would do!!

I'm sure I can once I figure out how to do it maybe we can plug it into a smart plug and just tell Alexa to make the coffee

For some things, technology is great... for others, it's a nuisance. Why does a coffee maker need to be digital and have too many buttons on it? I hope you get used to it soon. Have a good day.

Everything seems to be digital these days. I shouldn't have been surprised when my daughter set it up and the whole thing lit up like a christmas tree. Guess I have to accept that not everything is just on and off anymore. Hope you and Pretty are doing good

Our coffee maker went out between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thankfully we had another one we bought for when that happened. For our dirty Santa gift exchange, I bought another with some filters and a small can of coffee and we got it so we are prepared for when this one goes out. It worked out in our favor It's cold and blustery here, with no snow. Our mountains are getting hit with snow though.

If you're a big coffee drinker like me then it's always good to have a back-up coffee maker. My old one is now in storage "just in case"

@Marilynda1225 Yep, we are alike in our love of coffee. Only once when we were first married did we not have a backup pot. After that we always made sure to have one just in case.

This pot has all sorts of lights that you have to push. Its probably not as complicated as I think and I'm just letting myself be intimidated. Being able to myLot from it would be quite an accomplishment

Sometimes even the technology is not liked as they are hard to learn. Recently in our company, the management has introduced software for planning which seems to be sophisticated or may we compare it with the old software and find the new one hard.

Welcome to the digital coffee pot age, we got a new one last autumn. I quickly learned, as did my hubs, that there is 1 of the 6 buttons that we actually have to press to get a good cup of coffee. You will figure yours out too, just don't think too much about it and you will find that 'one' button that you need. The other buttons will be just for your daughter to play with.

@Marilynda1225 I missed our coffee time this morning. I had to go to the other side of town to the hospital for my appointment with the surgeon for my gall bladder. It took me over half an hour to get over there, and then there was finding the 'correct' parking lot closest to entrance E-what a rigamorole. The doctor asked me why I was there, the referral from my family doctor was 'almost non-existant' in his words. I explained to him how I felt awful a year ago, but have changed my diet and am walking more. He asked when I had the test done, and thought it was a long time ago, but that it did not indicate that I need surgery. He did tell me that my liver is not well, and suggested walking more and faster. Ugh, the mere thought of that seems like a chore right now. But I will have to........

@Juliaacv at least he gave you a remedy for your poor liver. With spring coming it might be easier to get out and walk more. Maybe as you build up stamina you'll be able to do it faster. So I guess you don't need gall bladder surgery?

I'm sure it won't be as complicated as I think it will. You know I have to have my morning coffee so not learning is not an option. My daughter loves all sorts of newfangled things whereas I'm fine with just a button to push for start and one to turn it off
