My rent is going up by $100

I just found a letter on the door about renewing my lease and the rent going up by $100 per month. Last year it was increased by $10. This year it is an 8.2% increase. Next month's rent will be $1375 instead of $1275. I've been here for 4 years now. I think it initially was $1247 when I moved in.
Whatever. I can pay it. I realize that I am lucky to be able to absorb that kind of increase. Okay maybe not so many LUSH and Sephora splurges. Not as many baking experiments for coworkers.
All I can say is that this place had better have the pool open this summer. That was a big reason for why I moved here instead of a house.

Oh I know. When I got divorced the issue wasn't an inability to pay a mortgage but that I didn't have a sizeable down payment. I wasn't planning to get divorced. Now it is a triple whammy of not a great down payment, INSANE house prices, and now the rising interest rates. Even my mother who never misses a chance to sneer that I should move and buy a house admitted the other day that this isn't the time to buy a house.

@NJChicaa you just told me what I now know is going to happen. Our next door neighbors foreclosed. A bank bought it and is now renovating the house. I had hoped that once it got a face lift that it would sell. Now that it isn't the time to buy a house, that bank will act like a land lord and rent it out.

@NJChicaa It really isn't. I might say the only time it might be, despite everything, is if it is a house you know you will keep until you die. Then what you pay for it doesn't necessarily matter because you are not expecting a return.
Under the current circumstances I can say that I would not be a buyer right now.

@NJChicaa Yes it certainly does, but I would have thought up North would have been more expensive.

That is really sad it seems they do this people every year. I hate inflation. Its like noone cares about the people trying to make in the world and we all have bills to pay. I feel the pain of the loss of money especially with rent..

8.2 - wow! When we were at the apartments, they were all rent controlled, so they could only raise up to 3% each year. My dentist says she has to bring the rent on her rental properties up to keep up with current times . . . I suppose many are having to do that .

That's still pretty reasonable for rent these days. Consider yourself fortunate. Most places here in Virginia are more, at least around the metro areas.

I sure hope so, too. If you're paying that much, it had better have the pool.

I would be livid about the pool not being open; and I would want my pool money back!
