During our last day in Istanbul, Turkey, Andrea and I managed to queue and see the Basilica Cistern. It used to be a water storage for Turkish and Roman people back in the days, but now have been converted into an art museum. It was absolutely stunning on the inside. I am happy that ancient things like these were preserved for us to marvel in and enjoy the beautiful architecture of the past. The Romans did really well in bringing good architecture to the world.

Not only were the Romans adept at bringing great architecture to the world, but they showed us that things could be built to last for centuries. I'm glad they built things right back then, and not quickly and cheaply as things are built nowadays. The Basilica Cistern looks amazing, and I would love to visit and explore the location. I love history, and I love art. When the two are combined, I am in heaven!

@moffittjc Yeah I never heard of Roman structures in the US so I've always sort of wondered.

That means you need to pack your bags and travel Europe. Have you got a lot of Roman structures in the states?

@flapiz I'm pretty sure the Romans never made it across the Atlantic Ocean, at least as far as I know. In most of the eastern US, the structures are of English design, since the founding and growth of our country was heavily influenced by the British. But Florida, which through most of its history was owned by Spain, has more Spanish-inspired architecture.

The Romans did some incredible stuff. I think you've been to the baths in Bath, haven't you? They are amazing too.

@flapiz @JudyEv Constantine The Great, the first Christian Roman Emperor. He was proclaimed in York. Lucky both of you that you were not so much annoyed by the Roman history.

What the Romans did in the past is incredible... if they could be as good as they were in our days.

@flapiz I wonder if they were my great great grandfathers, I think my ancestors were Celts, from the north.

@LadyDuck Hahaha. I when Andre visited The Roman Baths we make a joke saying it is his ancestors. Surely maybe even 1% of the DNA.

I was definitely impressed. You know it is good if it lasts for a long time. Not like the modern buildings of today which does not last as long. Have you been?
