When Birds Filled the Parks

The one thing that everyone loved to do in the capital city of Riga, Latvia when spring suddenly arrived was to walk in the parks. Living in the suburbs we were tired of plowing through snow and slipping on ice. We had walked in the woods when snow was still on the ground and particularly when it was falling because everything looked so beautiful. However, there comes a time when the white world becomes boring and you want to have a green world again. As soon as the dirty snow and slush were gone from the city streets we went into the city to walk in the parks. It was great to see the streets dry and the sun shining and we knew the parks would be full of birds of all kinds. Ducks remained in the city parks all year round and we would occasionally walk along the frozen canals to feed them but when the spring breezes blew it was great to see nature looking beautiful once more. Even the littlest birds were not afraid of the people walking in the parks. They had either been hiding out all winter or had arrived from some far-off place and were ready to scratch the moist ground for worms. Nothing could disturb them, especially during the first days of spring and that is how I was able to take such a close photo of that beautiful little bird. Now with spring coming again, I remember how lovely those days were and how the parks were filled with all kinds of birds.

This week has been a good week for the birds. It's been very warm; but it will drop into the 40s next week. Thank you for a lovely story.

As I feed the birds I have plenty of sparrows coming to my garden. Also the ducks visit to bath in our pond. I love to hear the birds chirping.

You have lifted my spirits Sandra..this is so precious this photo of the lovely little sparrow. I know where you lived must have been beautiful in Latvia Sandra. "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows."

I love seeing the birds returning in the Spring. And I love seeing snow falling, as long as it doesn't stick to the ground... As soon as it starts sticking to the ground, I'm done with Winter.

I was at the park today, with my jacket on of course. I saw a few birds out and about. We are all ready for spring.
