Olive Oil and Three Kinds of Olives in My House. Anyone Else?

I was looking in my refrigerator and saw two kinds of olives, black ones called Kalamata (my favorite) and some big green ones called Colossal, stuffed with garlic cloves. In the cupboard, I have some small cans of sliced black olives that we like to use if we make pizza or pasta.
Then I wondered how many kinds of olives there are. One source tells me that there are 139 different kinds, grown in 23 countries that account for 85% of all olives grown.
90% of them are grown for oil and the rest they call "table olives," like the ones I have.
One really surprising fact was that olives are now grown on every continent except Antartica. I guess that accounts for the other 15%.
We use mostly olive oil for cooking, so I guess we good customers for the olive growers of the world.
Do you eat olives or use olive oil?

Oh, yes, I really like stuffed green olives. But I don't want them on pizza. I get a cup of olives from a jar and eat them while myLotting, sometimes. We also use olive oil in our cooking.

@JamesHxstatic Yes, as long as they're green olives, I enjoy them. I've got the small ones with pimento in them and the large ones with garlic in them... If they're black, I consider them already rotten. Sorry.

You are an olive snacker I see. How about black ones? Great on pizza!

We eat olives, my husband particularly likes olive, both black and green. My favorite are the big green sweet Italian "olive di Cerignola", as black I like the Passolone better than the Greek Kalamata. When we go to the Italian grocery store I always buy several kind of olives.
I use extra virgin olive oil, common olive oil and "unfiltered" for special salads, it's expensive but the taste so good.
Have a look at some of the olive sold in the Italian grocery stores.

Now you tell me! I wish I'd know that as a kid. But all we had around back then was Crisco.

Yes and yes. Both the girls (although fussy eaters in some ways) have loved olives since they were tots. We have green ones and purple ones (Kalamata seem to be purple here) and I also love the really salty shrivelled kind you get in Greece or Turkey.

Nice, maybe ours are sort of purple too. My wife lived in Turkey for about 9 years teaching our Air Force families kids, so I'm sure she knows those others.
