Little-known facts (maybe) about Formula 1 racing cars

F1 racing car driver, Daniel Ricciardo, was born in Perth, Western Australia, so it might not be a surprise to find one of his racing cars in the Whiteman Park Motor Museum in our state. I must admit I didn’t take a lot of notice of it but I was intrigued by some facts about Formula 1 racing that were written up on notice boards.
The one that most intrigued me is that, if a driver has to brake suddenly, the speed of the car combined with the force of the brakes, causes water to shoot out of the driver’s tear ducts. Who’d a thunk?
Other interesting facts:
• F1 cars can go from 0 to 160 km/h (100mph) and back in 4 seconds.
• At 193 km/h (120 mph), F1 cars can run upside-down in tunnels.
• It costs upwards of 14 million pound to build F1 car.
• The engine can only be used for five to seven races.
• The brake discs can reach temperatures of 1000oC (1832oF), a temperature equivalent to molten lava.
The photo was taken by Vince.

I never liked racing or cared about cars, but that tear ducts thing is amazing, as is the upside down in tunnels.

Ron Howard's movie "Rush" about Formula One racing captures the vibe of the sport and features the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Really good movie for fans of the sport!
Some interesting facts. Big Bucks investment too...

@JudyEv Yes, very good film! I briefly followed Formula One racing when it was popular during the Jackie Stewart period.

You're actually a Formula 1 racing fan, aren't you?
I swear, we learn some really... interesting... things about fellow myLotters at times.
BTW, I suggested this discussion to Sam... He LOVES Formula 1 racing... I hope you have more stuff to share when he gets here. (Don't worry... unless he's talked with you before, he won't bother you too much... He's shy. )

@JudyEv I'm almost sure you have met @DevMrSamEleazar before. I keep introducing him to different friends on myLot but he's kind of shy so he doesn't usually talk to people except me very much.
Have I told you lately that you're almost as evil as @vandana7?

@JudyEv vanny is too much fun when I compare someone else with her level of evil.
Sam is really a good guy. He just has too much homework...

Thank you for the information. It is fun to watch when they're racing but I get also worried that someone may crash. I understand it's a kind of sport but are these cars really useful in daily life? Just curious. The technology is amazing though.

I don't think they are useful at all and the cost of each one would feed a great many people.

Amazing facts there Judy!
It is such work goes into those cars.
I did go to Silverstone in Engalnd the car race don't remember what year..Mario Andretti was there.
It was pi**ing down with rain and I stood in the mud to see him.
If I am remembering correctly.
I love those cars but I wouldn't want to drive one.

Are you sure you got the spelling of brake correctly. It may be BREAK not BRAKE. Blame my evil mind...but BREAK sounds more plausible.
But we are facing water shortages...I could do with water ..at least for my money plants. At least, it won't stink like pee.
Ok...seriously...I am against such stuff.
Reason? .. On the one hand we complain about pollution, global warming, fossil fuel depletion blah blah...and on the other hand, we are into Formula 1 type of racing.
How much fossil fuel goes into practicing and races?
How much of it goes into people traveling to train repair and be spectators during those practice and final racing sessions?
How much of it goes into building those gears and cars?
How much of it goes into building those race tracks?
Mind boggling figures...I presume. We make the world poorer by that much. Don't we? Then we say we love our kids. They gonna suffer ailments. There are many poor who could have been helped with that money. But we choose entertainment over food clothing shelter medicines and education of fellow citizens...
So yeah, the evil vanny is against such sports.

@JudyEv What...you don't believe it? If you believe everybody is good, you don't prepare the person for bad shocks. But if you show them, well, I am evil, this is how bad I can be, they prepare themselves for worse..and are therefore better off. It is true you know....to be identifiable evil is as important as to be good...
