Peace but only on our terms

We yearn for peace but the path looks fraught. It is no more one super power, as two more have made this enviable list.
It is more about a face off to browbeat the other with smaller countries dragged into the theater of war. Nuclear weapons are bandied about to force the other to back off.
We are living dangerously for sure. Life and death, life as we know it and the Armageddon, are not more than a hair's breadth apart.
Even during better times, false warnings of nuclear attacks had occurred but sanity prevailed as the other side gave the benefit of doubt. Now, that leeway is almost nil as threats are made so that a single move will result in all out war.
On the one hand we are tackling climate change and using technology to improve lives but on the other we are reaching the precipice of setting us back to the Stone Age.
Our leaders must prove their worth through give and take to save this precious real estate that has sustained life for billions of years.
We are living dangerously indeed. Let us do it for our creator. Live and let others live cannot go wrong. Everyone's a winner when peace prevails.
Don’t you think we are taking another world war very casually?

Very smart point buddy and yes we are living very dangerously and disrespectful. I think I learned one thing in my 46 and a half years on this earth. People cannot live and let live. They cannot let others live how they choose. They must enforce their will on others, so sad and a sad way to live. Peace always is what we want, but war with each other is all we seem to get.
I personally like your version of life personally and why you one of my favorite people, I hope one day people will come to your version is the right way to live, but to be honest do not see it happening anytime soon.

Thank you for your support.
I tend to go by "never say never" as a messiah among us will spring to our survival before we press the nuclear button.
I recall "my way or the highway", and, "either you are with us or agaist us". That is a way toward our aniihilation.
We need to work harder for peace to win the hearts of those who seem to have none, but dig a bit deeper, we are similar and from the same source.

The verbal exchanges between US and Russia over Ukraine, more than the current war does gives us reasons to be concerned.
Russia did the wrong thing by trying to occupy Ukraine and turning 7.5 to 8 Million people into refugees.
Then, US with its relentless attitude towards NATO isn't helping in finding a compromise solution.
So well, Great Powers' egos can lead to the whole world's doom one day.
And well, Stone Age won't be far or humans might even become a second fiddle to other species like Ants or even cockroaches in that scenario.
And would the surviving humans be able to live good enough?

Unfortunately, UN looks so helpless and almost sidelined.
So well, we are at the mercy of the ego of the leaders of the big powers.

How can there be compromise if Putin simply refuses to get his troops out of Ukraine?

@kanuck1 Yes, one of them is the acclaimed professor Jeffrey Sachs.
His interview outlined his practical take, which was acclaimed by many as per the comments below. Of course, his views do not gain currency with those that matter.
We need to have a change in attitude as weapons are of no use when facing nuclear power. Now North Korea threatens with nuclear missiles and the list will grow.
I have worked in a few countries with many from different countries. The common folks have no issues, and I hope they will clearly convey that leaders should end this brinkmanship. People being killed are just like us and not mere digits.
Leaders should meet across a table to start with.

@Shiva49 You are absolutely right. We are inching towards another world war.And if unfortunately that breaks out;neither of the two will remain a super power anymore.

We have repeated history all the time. The issue now is we have weapons to destroy our world many times over.
A war was once started to end all wars in the future and it looks like the next war will end the world as we know it. And leaders of superpowers are using others as pawns in their game of one-upmanship.

@Shivram59 Yes, the big leaders are looking high and low to create trouble.
Why can't they leave others alone?
And they are under the thumb of arms merchants who are ready to supply their wares to anyone, both parties even, in times of war.
The irony is the common folks everywhere are the same with similar emotions.
They want to be left alone.

Absolutely many are taking the thought of war too lightly. I say they are poking the bear here in the US. One day the bear will fight back and the fuse will go off. Our country could look like your photo if things continue. Too many are not thinking of their consequences. I can only hope for better days and for more to use common sense in their actions.

I have heard perspectives from a few who are deeply concerned with the way the war is being stoked egging the parties to go broke and take Russia to the cleaners.
One is Jeffrey Sachs, who has a balanced outlook and entrenched in the reality of the situation. He is at a loss to understand how a country with 1600 nuclear weapons can be defeated without triggering a nuclear war.
I read about how the Second WW took the people in South East Asia by surprise as they thought the Japanese were no match for the mighty British Army. Then Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs decided the outcome of the war. Thousands of ordinary folks, including women and children, were butchered and most bayoneted and dismembered.
Now it is not only atom bombs from one country to reckon with.

Many take this issue very lightly and our supposed leaders think that one can win a nuclear war.
The consequences of a single nuclear bomb will be devastating.
Then what is the use of give and take later but not before?
Sadly everyone wants to have it their way and they think it will be business as usual later.

Peace is difficult to maintain when some country decides it wants to rebuild its empire and invades another.

I am afraid that a World War III is around the corner with our leaders making threats of using nuclear weapons even if our planet gets destroyed.

Well, not sure if were taking it casually but we are definitely taking the wrong approach by initiating conflicts. Escalation of violence to secure peace will not work. We must work together to find mutual agreements to insure peace.
