Do you talk to yourself?

I talk to myself a lot when I’m at home by myself. It’s not like it’s a two-person conversation or anything. I’m just voicing things aloud. Whatever is on my mind, whatever is bothering me, things I wanna make sense of, etc.
Sometimes I complain as if I’m saying it to the person I wanna complain to and it goes great. And I kinda feel better afterwards. But then when it comes time actually to complain to said person my mouth just won’t open. How stupid is that?
I should be able to open my mouth and say anything that’s on my mind, whether good or bad, but that is just not the case. And it doesn’t even matter who the person is or which people I am with.
I can be sitting with a group of people and they are engaged in conversations but I just sit there in silence, wishing I was somewhere else...

I talk to the cat. He will ocassionally meow in response, which I always wonder if he is saying...I don't know what the H. you are talking about.... He only listens, to food, snack, bed, bubbles, squirrel etc. Things important in his world.

@lovebuglena I've stopped listening!! If he's playing backgammon on the computer, he's working out the probability of certain numbers coming up.

Sometimes talking to yourself is a good thing. What does your husband talk to himself about?

You sound like an extroverted introvert. I am the same, but I learned how to deal with this. Except for rare occasions, I engage in conversations, no matter with who, if I am interested in the topic.

Extroverted introvert. Haven’t heard of that phrase before.

I always talk to myself when needed and talk to my cats. When I get myself down I pep talk myself in the mirror, I do it in both of the languages I know English and Latvian, Usually during the day if I talk to myself it is in English but when I say my prayers in the morning and at night those are in Latvian,

@lovebuglena I am very tough on myself I look myself in the eye and say Are you dying? Do you have major problems? If not, then pull yourself together and do the things you have to do, It always gets me out of my slump and luckily I have been OK not for quite some time,

I've heard people say that giving yourself a pep talk while looking in the mirror helps. Doesn't seem to work in my case. Like if I don't think I can do something, looking at myself in the mirror and telling myself I got this doesn't make me believe I can do this.

I have conversations with myself all the time. Sometimes we get into big arguments, and I get sent to the doghouse and have to sleep on the couch. But I always apologize to myself the next day and then all is forgiven. lol

I used to talk to my dogs all of the time. I don't talk to myself. Yes, you have a problem expressing your feelings. I wish you could express yourself better.

Easier for me to write or text than opening my mouth.

Happens to me sometimes. A lot of time I don't know if I'm being addressed or not, so people just think I'm ignoring them.

@lovebuglena I get that sometimes, too.

@kaylachan It's a weird feeling when you say something and the other person doesn't seem to hear you.

Sometimes I may say something to someone but it’s as if they don’t hear me. Or maybe they’re just not paying attention.

It’s OK when you’re home alone. But if you do it when you’re around people they’ll think you’re crazy.

No, I don't talk to myself... And if I have something to say, I just say it and let other people know how I feel.
I'm sorry you have difficulty doing that.

@lovebuglena Sometimes I hurt feelings when I don't mean to... I need to learn to think before I open my mouth.

@lovebuglena I don't know why hubby does that. I don't want him getting irritated so no I'm not telling him that it bugs me.

Haha. Nowadays with bluetooth and having earbuds when on the phone it can appear that a person is talking to themselves when in fact they are talking on the phone.

And if in a group of people I love to converse with them. Usually.

It’s not a good experience when everyone around you is talking but you are silent. You feel out of place and want to be anywhere but there.

@RebeccasFarm A person may choose not to participate in a certain conversation but a person should always be able to participate in any conversation, even if it's just asking questions and not giving your views or opinions or knowledge on something.

But when people saw you talking to yourself.
They think you are crazy.

That is very true. I remember I saw one guy walking along the street talking. No one was around. Found it weird that he was talking to himself (as if it was a two-person conversation) but then I realized he had a bluetooth thing in his ear and was actually talking to someone on the phone that way.
