Town Hall Square

One of the most beautiful squares in the capital of Latvia, Riga is the Town Hall Square. It is the first square you walk through to enter the Old Town. On the right of the photo, you can see The Hall of Blackhead, a museum today. The building was rebuilt to look like it had once been in the 14th century when it was built for the Brotherhood of Blackheads, a guild for unmarried merchants, ship owners, and foreigners who traveled to Riga.
In the distance, you can see the very tall steeple of St Peter’s Church. This steeple has a platform from which visitors can see the entire city. Most of the churches in Riga have steeples like this church that are topped with golden roosters, not crosses. They are the most recognizable symbols of the city and are also weathervanes. There are modern churches topped with crosses.

@allknowing that is just the problem I might want to go back but now I do not have the finances. If someone had given me more solid advice before I came back to the US despite the memories I would have stayed there,

It is incredible to look at. Such history and lovely architecture.

I like the old buildings, especially the old churches. Nice photo.
The modern ones have lost a lot, in the quick build methods used these days.
