Can You Imagine Building Your Own Computer? Well, my grandson, with the help of a friend, is building himself a new gaming computer. I am seeing all these boxes of computer parts coming in day after day. I am very impressed that he wants to build his own as opposed to buying one.
A couple of years ago he built his first one and enjoyed it for quite a while. Now he is giving this one to a friend and upgrading it with a new one he's building. I just think it is so amazing that you can do this. I have to have him help me reset the wifi on my phone(I can do it myself now!) and do things that seem very complex to me but he just does it like a walk to the water cooler. No biggy. He helps me almost daily with either my cell or my computer. All the workings, steps to do something, programs and such - oh my!
Have you built a new apparatus lately?

Good for him!
Yes, for years I have built the desktops Pretty uses for gaming. It isn't a walk to the water cooler but it can be fun and entertaining... But I like gadgets. I'm glad your grandson does, too.

He is just amazing. No formal training, just learned from his one friend and picked up a lot as he went.

@celticeagle - He is building a new one right now, he just screwed the motherboard. This afternoon I help him to connect all the cables.

Ever since we had our first desktop, that's when we got introduced to opening the computer and swapping parts to improve or make it better. This was due to the repair shop which we sometimes brought the computer would also show and teach us how things were done and what to check up on. I was able to do simple swapping of parts and upgrades.
Here in the office, I was able to use what I learned with some of the computers we have here and when one of the computers seemed to have ceased from working conditions, we would check if some parts of it could still be repurposed for other computers as a slight upgrade.
At home, the computer we purchased was custom built, meaning the staff from the store helped us in choosing the parts which was well within the budget that we have. It was a descent one that can be used for video editing that my wife needs, as well as gaming that I now rarely do, but our son does when he has the time.

Now that's good business. A place that will help you learn. That's just great.

Kudos to your grandson for developing the skills to build his own computer.
My oldest son did much the same thing a few years back and built himself a gaming computer. He'd constantly upgraded it since, and the only part that's still original is probably the case.

Nothing will be original on this one. The last one is one the school gave him.

Kids these days are so tech savvy compared to us older adults. I wouldn't know where to start to build anything.
