Today i checked my suitcase only to find out that rats have eaten my jacket and cats are around.. after investigating I found them breading on my sofa. A neighbor of mine complained about rats eating on his leather shoes,I think these rodents can eat anything except metal.

If there is something they can use as food, then rats will find a way to it. Rich people can afford to keep calling exterminators to clean them out for a while. That's the only difference.

@Maxveg Most cats won't attack a rat. Rats can kill them.

When they start breeding inside the coach, drilling tunnel on the walls it becomes a disaster, imagine cats are around but looks like they are relatives.

Rats don't have to do with money. Rats can fit any space that their heads can get through meaning so can their bodies. Rats like anything that smells like foot and most likely found you a jacket to make for a warm bed somewhere. Like anywhere in the world given animals find ways inside.

@Maxveg The fact that I read a whole bunch and live where mice naturally come in from the woods behind my house, where other woodland creatures live. Sanke will find ways in to house in the winter usually because one the houses are warm, two mean if mice or rats get in or find small holes the snakes have a free meal. Same with bugs and other little things. Rats and mice are not indications of one's income. We are human and we live in a world full of nature and nature finds it way into homes on a daily bases. Having a feline doesn't mean they will eat or kill rats, mice or other things. Yes, it is in their nature to do so but doesn't mean they will. I grew up with mice see most mice in winter, had cats she wouldn't touch them. We had a dog if any go into the space he slept in he would kill them. Then again this is the same dog that would have tried to bill a bird for eating his dog food. Even rich people get them in their house very normal some places more then others.

How they access those places is the question, one rat can decide to bring the whole rat community into the house within days, they don't even have shame for intruding into people's property.

I am sorry that your jacket is eaten by the rats. It's hard to get rid of them.

Sorry about your jacket but I do not think that rat is a sign of poverty.

In Africa some cultures and communities believe rats, bedbugs, lice, jiggers and cockroaches are a symbol or sign of porvety though I'm not sure.
