A new week but the same old severe weather look. I’m sick of this spring already. Maybe it’ll be like winter: a bad beginning then everything will calm down. What’s warming up, though, is this look of songs from 1963. Hard to believe these classics are sixty years old now! Here’s today’s song.
Be My Baby - Ronettes
It’s just like Ronnie said, “Be my little baby”
(Eddie Money, “Take Me Home Tonight”)
Ever notice how much “Don’t Worry Baby” sounds like this song?
Here’s some trivia for you: the “Ronettes” was just Ronnie Spector. No other “Ronette” on the recording. Backing vocalists, however, did include Sonny and Cher.
Put together, it’s one of the definitive songs of the 60s.
Be My Baby
Written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich, and Phil Spector
Recorded by the Ronetttes
Released as a single, 1963

It’s like Dawn…they used models until they got popular then actually had to find singers!

@spiderdust — Dawn was Tony Orlando and studio singers. After they got popular they had to get a real “Dawn” together for tours.
That’s better than the Archies or the 1910 Fruitgum Company. They weren’t bands at all.

There were no other singers in the studio, so they sat at home and ate popcorn.

@TheHorse — of course. They had talent, but Ronnie was the star.

It’s amazing how songs like this are simultaneously timeless and able to transport you back to the 60s, isn’t it!

You’ll probably know most of them….you may not like them all, but you should know most of them.

Yes, Brian might have been paying tribute to Phil with Don't Worry Baby. I read his book and he was impressed and influenced with him as a producer. He often mentioned others who influenced his music and songwriting. The Beatles were a prime example. He produced "Let it Be." Although the boys were not happy with the results!
Even so, George Harrison had him produce "All Things Must Pass" and John "Imagine."
Oh yes, got sidetracked there. A for the song!

I don’t care for the thick-as-pea-soup production on “Let It Be,” either. Some songs needed the Wall of Sound. That song did not.
Meanwhile, thanks, love this song too!

Ronnie was certainly in a class by herself.
