Renting after owning a home for 15 years

Now that I am renting instead of owning, I am finding it a lot different now. Less bills to pay, which is great, but I have to adjust to my new situation. I am adjusting pretty well though. I thought it would take quite awhile as I am just not used to any of this. The biggest adjustment is going from a house to a studio apartment. I never thought that I would be renting, but here I am.it really surprised as to much is in here, since it used to be a motel room, that has been converted to a studio apartment. That is the biggest adjustment of all, as I am used to a lot of room, but here it all is in one room.Had to really downsize which in itself has been hard, as has to get rid of so many things. I never anticipated being in a studio apartment as I was planning on buying a trailer and living in it, but we all know that things happen, so it never materialized. It was disappointing as I didn’t know where I would end up, but my daughter-in-law kept going until she found a place for me to go . I will always be greatfuk she didn’t give up until she found a place for me to go. I am living about 20 miles from where I was living forb15 years, but like I said, I seem to be adjusting better than I thought I would.

I would be shifting to an old age home in a decade or so. I have mentally prepared myself for that. So I am learning to use less of the house. Any more tips? Oh why have the bills come down?

We bought a home (24 years ago) after renting during 35 years. Every year the apartment loan went up. When we need to fix something we had to wait that the owner sent his workers to take care of the matter. The neighbors changed quite a bit and not all neighbors were quiet nice people. I love our home and not having to deal with people.

It's good to know that you're adjusting well. I find it difficult to let go of things I've worked hard for over the years. On the bright side, I enjoy decorating a new space, I hope you find the best furniture and other things to make your new home a lovely and cozy place to live.

Hello, @rosekiss! Long time no talk. Your beautiful crocheting has been in my mind, and today, I remember about it. I check my old posts, and there, like a hidden treasure, I see your name. I remember the cute crocheted dress you give to a baby—that time was really nice. Now, I live in a small apartment, a cozy space I call home. We have a house in the province, but many sad memories there, so I don't want to stay. Life brings me here, where I find comfort and a new beginning in the everyday stitches of my life.

She is great to find you a place Karen. Yes things happen alright. I never imagine I would be where I am either. Did you at least get to sell some of your stuff? Is it a sort of apartment building now? Are there neighbors there? I am sorry you lost your house.

I'm glad she found you a place to go. And yeah, renting is definitely different from owning your own home. I've gone through that, too. For years, I've owned my homes but when I divorced my first wife, I didn't like anything I found well enough to buy so I moved into a rental house. And have stayed renting ever since.

It must definitely be a change and an adjustment. Glad you're adjusting well and things are going well.

I hope you get adjusted quickly and live a comfortable life in your new address. It's the opposite for me. I've been renting for more than 22 years and now, I want to own a house with a spacious yard where I can plant flowers and trees.

I guess, like everything there are the pros and the cons and its a matter of figuring out the emotional math. I've been both - tenant and owner - we rented for 16 years, then bought, owned for 18, sold and rented for a year. Then, we ended having to make the decision to move or buy the rental out. Sigh. I was content to just let the owner worry about all the issues - but now we're back to owning again. It has a lot to do with the property too - who your neighbours are etc
