I Never Touched a Chicken

That’s the truth! I was on my morning walk yesterday when I stopped to take a photo of some pretty yellow flowers on a shrub. I didn’t care for the photo, so was about to take another photo when I got the shock of my life. A big fat chicken clucked her way up to me. Of course I spoke to her, and she let me pet her a few times before checking my hand for food. She was so soft and silky. This took place at the curb of the street I was walking on. It’s a quiet street, but I worried that she’d get hit by a car. I walked up the driveway, saw a Tesla charging, rang the doorbell twice, and knocked on the door. I wanted to find out if this was the chicken’s owner and if it escaped. No one answered the door. However, the chicken followed me to the door and took a drink from a large saucer. I gave her my goodbyes and continued on my walk, but returned later. She was nowhere to be found. Hope she’s okay. At least I can now say that I finally touched a live chicken.

Sounds like someone has a pet chicken. I recall the last time I ever touched a chicken. I was about four and had made friends with one at my grandparent's house. I actually picked it up and carried it around for a while. I ended up getting ringworm. It gives me the chills when I think about it and I won't be petting any chicken any time soon.

Ahaha this is a very wholesome story. I grew up with chickens my dad breeds them. Do not worry it probably is just busy nibbling some worms somewhere else. They are pretty quick at dodging.

That's so cool! I've seen many chickens and roosters, but never touched any. Thanks for the information. I was so worried about it.

@DianneN Do you want to keep one as a pet after that encounter?

@flapiz I always wanted to raise chickens for eggs, but my town up north won't allow it and here in Florida, I live in a condo with rules.

That was nice since most of them would shy away from humans and would not go near anyone around. I guess she trusted you so much that you even gave her a drink.

Oh, that's funny. Chickens will run from a moving vehicle so no need to worry about it.

Henny Penny has been treated well by somebody or she wouldn't have been so accepting of you. I hope she found her coop again.

Glad you didn’t choke….oh, wait, that’s probably what JJ said and deleted, so skip that. Truth be told, birds are not something I’ve ever thought about going around to pet.

I'm dying to pet Orv Mille the osprey. Back in the day I loved petting my parakeets and canaries, but at least they were very tame.

I am thinking that grumpy old mans erased comment probably had the word choked in it . Some chickens can be very tame. Glad you finally got to pet one

Hahaha. We had a lot of chicken in my home back then in the Philippines. And that chicken you touched looked like the native chicken we got and the meat is really good for cooking delicious dish.

I have never touched a chicken either. I have seen plenty though at state and county fairs and such. I am trying to think if I ever touched one at petting zoos and such,,,don't think so.

Touching a chicken in one thing. My friend Leslie had a grandpa that had a farm. One time on the farm she saw a chicken get its head cut off and the chicken kept hopping about. It was the way people got chicken on the table at the farm, However, since that time my friend has never eaten chicken again until now when it has finally faded from memory she enjoyed chicken meat.

I’ve seen my parents’ butcher behead a chicken and more recently outside Hong Kong. However, I didn’t look. No wonder so many people are vegans and vegetarians
