I read a book, titled Raj. The subject is the numerous kingdoms of India during the early 20th century, when the British managed most of India. The Maharajas of those kingdoms wanted the freedom that Canada and Australia had to decide things for themselves. They fought for the British in the Great War. The quilt depicts the wedding garments of a 12 year old Bride who is to marry the second son of the richest kingdom among this group. So, she goes through all the pre wedding requirements, but he doesn't even show up for the wedding. She wears this wonderful red silk dress, but he sends his sword, and stays fighting with his troops. It is a fascinating book, and has no pictures. In the quilt are three elephants towing a Rolls Royce, because nobody knows how to drive it, taking it to the home of the princess. Lots of wedding guests, large drums, lots of noise, but the sword is the stand in for the groom. It wasn't much of a marriage either. Fantastic book. A friend of mine saw a photo of the quilt, and insisted on buying it from me. She now owns two of my favorite works.

Thanks. The fun thing is that I already had all the fabrics, they are very unusual, and just made the quilt.

@Redmadness - I have some Berber fabrics that I bought during a trip to Morocco, you cannot find them outside Morocco.

Thanks. The book is wonderful, long, fiction but truly based on history. I really enjoyed making the quilt.

Thanks. It was a challenge to make and to sell it to an old friend was great. I was very surprized when she said she wanted it.
