Defensive instinct

I saw this video of a woman beating beaten up badly by her cop boyfriend and she was just crying as he continuously kick her. She was not on the floor but was on her feet and bending down as the man grabbed her hair. What would you have done if you were in her place? Would you have the strength to fight back? One of my brothers was physically abusive when we were young. He’s 7 years older than me and I had been hit by him too many times. Whenever I pissed him off, i would get slapped. But my instinct was always to fight back and i did. I was tiny, he was huge but i got legs long enough to kick him.

I would try to fight back, I would try to kick him where I know it is very painful for a man.

I thought the same when watching the video. There were several opportunities to kick the man in the balls but she didn't do it.

@toniganzon They immediately calm down if you kick them in the balls or you hit their nose with your knee.

@LadyDuck Right and she had that chance but she didn't think of it. Probably she was in too much pain to even think of fighting back.

Maybe to run away or to fight back. It depends on the person

Although when we are threatened or harmed, our natural instinct is to fight back. But, I believe the best course of action in the aforementioned scenario is to avoid and stay as far away as you can from her abuser. The attacker can become even more enraged and retaliate more if she fights back.

AT that very instant, she had no opportunity to run away but she could have kicked him in the balls and run but she didn't. I would defend myself by fighting back. Rather than just letting the man hit me and just cry.

I would run away, rather than just endure the beatings. if I can\t run, I will kick him in the groin where it hurts the most and then run away as fast as I can, and perhaps, ask for help or report him to the police or higher-ups.

I can't help wondering who was videoing the beating and why weren't they helping.

No idea. It was shown to me and I didn't have the guts to finish watching it. All I know is that cop was relieved from his post and is now in jail.

@JudyEv Yes, he got what he deserved. He's a policeman and he should be protecting people and not beating them up.

Yes but she couldn't run as she was being held by her hair. But she could have fought back by using her legs.

I'd definitely fight back but I'll try to deescalate the situation first.

There was no way to deescalate the situation brother. The woman wanted to break up with him after finding out he was married and he started beating her up.

Running away is a smart move than allowing yourself to be beaten up to a pulp.

Sorry to know you had that when you were a young girl..terrible. I had it many times in life..when grown. Yes, I always got them back and when they least expect it Not to say I did not take many beatings and scars for it too. I am lucky to be alive today.

Immediately go for the one place that would hurt a man the most…his balls. Kick, hit, scratch, bite…whatever it takes to inflict the most pain possible. And keep delivering as much pain as possible until he’s crying like a baby, and then get the hell out of there.

I think domestic violence is a very hard thing to understand. It seems easy to either fight back or leave the person but it isn't that easy in my opinion, and that's backed up with lots of statistics. She may have fought back the first time and got hit worse, then the man apologises and begs forgiveness etc. So, for various reasons, she stays. Then all is good and it happens again...maybe this time her defence says don't hit back it gets worse so she doesn't. The cycle continues and alongside that there may be some psychological control aspects from the man such as children and money etc. As I said, I think it's a very complicated thing but there are quite a few studies in the UK that explains why women don't fight back or just leave.

The reason why he beat him up was because she wanted to leave him after finding out he was married. He's in jail now by the way.
