Out with the old, hopefully...

We recently bought a new sofa, but now we have to sell the old one before we can bring home the new one.
Have you ever sold anything on FB marketplace? I have a few times, but the scammers are like parianas. As soon as I listed the sofa, I had 8 or 9 bites. But they all wanted to exchange bank info and do some kind of identity code for safety reasons (ha!)
I said, nope, cash only. Now it's eerily silent.
Maybe someone legitimate will call today.
Hope you're having a great day.

I've never tried to sell anything on FB marketplace but I am with you on cash only. Hope you find a legitimate buyer soon so you can get your new sofa.

I have, but like you said for larger items there are scammers. I always say something like local pick up only that helps Selling smaller items doesn't usually attract scammers.

This is local pickup and cash only, but the scammers are around like buzzards.

I appreciate that. It's in good condition, just some discoloration on one end like leather will do.

I've sold stuff on Craigs List before and had pretty good luck with it. Yes, cash is king!

I quit trying Craigslist because of the scammers. Now they're everywhere! We finally gave the sofa to my cousin's step son.

Selling furniture can be rather difficult.
I purchased a new couch last summer. Getting rid of the old one was a bit difficult, they don't just haul them away for you when you get a new one. The one I was replacing was an extremely heavy couch, a leather Natuzzi. There were places that were worn and about to come through--I gave it to a friend for a ''man cave''. He came and hauled it out and I was very glad.

@MarieCoyle I can certainly understand not wanting to be there alone with strangers.

We might have to do something like that. I'd rather give it away than be cheated.

I didn't try to sell mine. I wouldn't have gotten that much for it, because it was showing wear. Plus, when you sell something big like that, and it requires someone coming in to your home, it's just not always a good feeling. With son not well and in and out so often, I was afraid it would get picked up when I was by myself, and I am not letting complete strangers in my home when I am the only one here, so that was how it all went down for the old couch. Good luck, I hope you sell it.

I don't use Fb anything... Too many scams and fake people there.
We just take furniture we don't want out to the curb, put a sign on it that says "Free!" and someone will come along and claim whatever it is.
Good luck selling your old couch.

It's used, but not bad enough to give away.

I've sold a few things locally that can't be shipped, but the scammers are terrible.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having some trouble selling your old sofa. It is very important to ensure your security and the confidentiality of your private information. If you want to continue selling sofas on the Facebook Marketplace, you are advised to be vigilant and follow some safety measures when communicating with potential buyers
