14 years ago today we were pulled over by the Mexican Federales

Facebook memories are a great way to be reminded of funny or even sad times. Today's showed me a collection of great memories from my spring break vacations in Cozumel, Mexico but the one from 14 years ago is the absolute BEST. Our group had rented Jeep Wranglers for the day and had gone around the island. The "kids" decided to go to The Lobster House for dinner which is well north of town and not within walking distance. 6 of us piled into one of the Jeeps. There were 2 people in the front seats, 2 people in the back seat, and 2 of us sitting up on top of that hanging on to the roll bars. Hey--its Mexico. Anything goes, right? Wrong. We got pulled over by the Federales which are *not* just the local police. My ex was driving and tried to "pay the fine" (bribe) them on the spot but they weren't having it. They took his driver's license and said he would have to go to the municipal building the following day to pay the ticket and get his license back. They also said that we could only have as many people in the Jeep as there were seatbelts (5) so 1 of our crew would have to find alternative transport to the restaurant. Somehow my cousin started flashing cleavage to the officers, Oscar and Alejandro, and the next thing you know they said that their boss said my ex could have his license back with no fine. They then offered to drive my cousin to the Lobster House themselves! I'm serious. You'd think that she would have sat in the back of their SUV but NOPE she sat smack in between them in the front with a huge smile on her face. I didn't take a picture because I didn't want to piss off the officers but I'll never forget the sight of it. So we all made it to the restaurant and texted our parents to relay the adventure. They then showed up in the other Jeep to make sure we were okay and not in jail. As dinner was winding down the waiter (owner's son) asked if we needed anything. My cousin said "yeah, I need Oscar and Alejandro to drive me back to the condo". . . and he actually called the Federales! For whatever reason they couldn't find them so the owner's son offered to drive her back to the condo in their dune buggy. My sister went with them to make sure he didn't steal her. We texted our parents and told them to wait outside for our dramatic arrival. My cousin asked the son if they routinely gave people rides home and he said it was the first time ever. Such a funny night!
