Apparently the long-running show was losing money even before COVID shut down Broadway for like a year. I had seen it twice--once back in high school and another time a few years later with my sister and cousin in my early to mid 20s. When I read the news that the show was closing in February I texted my cousin who immediately bought us tickets to go see it one last time.
We went back in early November and had seats in literally the last row. I was able to rest my head against the back wall. It did give a view of the orchestra that I had had never seen before. The show was amazing as always.
There was such a demand for tickets to the show that the closing was postponed for 2 months. . . until tomorrow. That will be the last time that the show is performed at the Majestic Theater. The creator, Andrew Lloyd Weber, has said that it will return in some other form and I hope that is the case. It is such an amazing story and show.
Tonight I am watching the movie adaptation which I have to say is pretty good. Walking up 44th St in Manhattan won't be the same without seeing that white mask on the sign outside the Majestic Theater.
On Sunday night the curtain will fall on the longest-running show in Broadway history: Andrew Lloyd Webber's mega hit ran for more than 35 years. "I got the gig of a lifetime," says one cast member.

I've never seen the movie or the play. Almost 14,000 performances is amazing.
