Howdy from the VA! It’s time for my dental cleaning. I figured that I’d get it done on a Monday because Mondays already suck, right? While waiting for the covid test results I’ll let you sink your teeth into another song that’s turning 60 years old this year. Let’s go back to 1963 for this gem.
Sweet Dreams (of You) - Patsy Cline
This song had already been a hit three times — once by Faron Young, twice by writer Don Gibson — by the time Patsy Cline went into the studio on February 5, 1963 to record it.
One month later, she would be dead, and this song would become hers for all time.
People have recorded it since (in fact, the only time this hit #1 on the country charts was in 1979, with Emmylou Harris’ cover), but why?
My go-to version of this song is Faron Young’s. In fact, it’s his rendition that made my 100 favorites list. But there’s no denying the power or brilliance of Patsy Cline’s version.
Sweet Dreams (of You)
Written by Don Gibson
Recorded by Patsy Cline
From The Patsy Cline Story, 1963
I should hate you the whole night through:

Oh gosh the memories to this song make me blush to this day.
I had the best partner back then. Course it didn't last, boohoo.
We danced the night away in secret hideaways.

@FourWalls I never heard of Patsy Cline until I moved to Turkey to teach kids of Air Force families on a military base.

This song and many others always got me teary-eyed. She had an awesome voice and it just overwhelms when you listen to it, I have the video about her life Sweet Dreams.

I’m amazed by her rockabilly sound, too. She definitely would have been a game-changer had she lived a long time.

When my daughter was still in a crib, after I read to her, we would turn off her light and have a little dance to some record before I laid her down. She would often say
she wanted to hear "Patsy Crine."

Funny, do you think she would like Patsy Crine today?

The song was first recorded in 1958, but Patsy’s version was recorded in 1963.

Yes, one of those exception to the rule of “I hate country music” that darn near everybody has. For good reason, too.

My three favorite Patsy songs are "Walking After Midnight, Crazy and I Fall to Pieces." Sweet Dreams ain't too shabby either
Willie Nelson provided her a great tune when he wrote "Crazy."

It’s kinda hard to find bad Patsy songs. I think you picked three excellent tunes. When I did a Patsy countdown a few zillion years ago “She’s Got You” topped my list.

Patsy Cline had an incredible voice, full of soul and expression. I loved the Sweet Dreams song, as well as Crazy.
She left the world way, way too soon.

There’s a good reason why we still listen to her after 60 year!
