There’s more country music to come in the top ten, but for now we’ll celebrate 1963 with the last country song in the alphabetical list. Tomorrow’s song is such a 180 from this one that you might need a seat belt. But that’s my crazy music life. Meanwhile, here’s today’s song. Talk Back Trembling Lips - Ernest Ashworth I never knew him to go by “Ernest.” He was always introduced on the Opry and other programs as Ernie. And here’s something that doesn’t matter a hill o’ beans to anyone, but there are two people named “Ernest” in the Country Music Hall of Fame: Ernest Tubb and Tennessee Ernie Ford. You’re welcome. Let’s get back to this Ernest. Ashworth knew what put the beans on his table, because his Nudie suits had big red lips on them in honor of this, his biggest hit. He had other hits (I love “Everybody But Me”), but this is the one he’s remembered for. After the success of the song Johnny Tillotson covered it and turned it into a good-sized pop hit as well in late 1963/early 1964. But I grew up with Ernie’s version, and it’ll always be an Ernie Ashworth song to me. Ernie, not Ernest. Talk Back Trembling Lips Written by John D. Loudermilk Recorded by Ernest Ashworth From Hits of Today and Tomorrow, 1963 Fighting is all we do:

I love everybody but me sounds like a pathetic one. I don't recall it but I do this one. Just barely. That was a few moons ago.

Don't know the song or the singer. I must have been walking a different country road,

I’m sure the shaking legs are a little risqué as well.

One more headache maker. The Reeves and Cash songs shouldn’t hurt too much.

I remember this very well. John D Loudermilk is also very familiar as a name.

But of course not! You couldn’t even convince me on an April Fool’s joke that you knew this one. Half the “country music fans” in the world don’t know it!
