Sometimes, I eat with my fingers.

I could savor my meal more when I eat with my fingers, especially, if the dish is a fish dish. I could carefully debone or fillet the fish, removing the smallest fish bone. With a spoon and fork, I sometimes overlooked the smallest fish bones. Even with meat dishes, I find it delicious to use my fingers when dipping the meat in gravy or soy sauce and pepper. With the exception of finger foods, have you ever tried eating with your bare hands? Of course, we wash thoroughly before using our hands. But do you find it "dirty" or unacceptable table manners? I see, I assume from most comments from your country that we have the same basic culture as you when it comes to eating.

@Jenaisle We have had pets around and sometimes we pet them even while eating and so we got into the habit of using cutlery We do not feed them at the table though

That's a part of our Indian Culture. Most Indian dishes are eaten with our hands. Spoons and forks were not part of our traditional way of eating. It came later with western and global influence. I savour my food eating with my hands.

I see, so we have the same culture. Spoons and forks were also introduced by Western Culture here.

And we teach babies to eat with their hands first, and then a few years down the line we tell them off for doing it. Hands were made before knives and forks

Depending on where I eat, if it's in a restaurant of course I at least use a spoon to keep it polite.

@TheHorse That's okay. I know many who even slurp, which is considered lack of table manners in many countrues.

Yes, fried chicken eaten with the hands is the best experience. Especially what we call "finger-licking-good chicken" here in the PH.

It's not very common for me to eat with my hands unless it's food that is considered "finger food". But I can understand that it's your culture to enjoy eating with your fingers and enjoying your food. I enjoy reading about cultural differences and I've learned so much here on myLot. I don't find it dirty or unacceptable to eat with your fingers/hands.

I generally use a knife and fork or chop sticks for non-finger food. I don't eat a lot of fish, except for sushi, which I love.

@AnneW21 It is tasty. It is tilapia. When dipped in fish sauce or soy sauce with lemon and red pepper, it is delectable. With rice, you could enjoy a full nutritious meal.

That is true. You enjoy your food better when you use your hands especially with fish and fried dishes. But I prefer eating with spoon and fork

I hate getting my hands dirty when I eat. Gravy and grease are immediately wiped away if I get them on my fingers/hands.
