Egg prices are down dramatically

So why aren't prices of the things that went up during the temporary egg shortage coming down accordingly? The answer is simple. Corporate greed. An egg today costs 1/3 of what it did just a few short weeks ago. Yet, the prices of items in the grocery store that skyrocketed due to the increased price of eggs have not come down at all. On the other hand, the McDonald's I often stop at for breakfast has reduced the prices of their breakfast sandwiches that include eggs by about 1/2 the amount they raised them. Will other restaurants and grocery retailers follow McDonald's lead? I hope so. There is no reason for them not to except greed. Have egg prices come down in your area?

I think it might take a couple of weeks to see the difference. They could still be shipping the stuff made when the price was higher

I don't know if they've come down or not as I'm not there at the moment. They seem to be quite expensive in Ireland.

I wonder if Ireland has robust domestic egg production or if they import a large portion of the eggs they use.

@DWDavis Certainly what I've seen are 'made in Ireland' eggs. I'll try to take a bit more notice of the packaging.

Yes they have quite a bit now DW. It is baffling isn't it? Greed rules.

Sadly, greed does rule corporate behavior.

Yes, egg prices have come down in my part of Missouri, too. I paid a little over $3 for an 18 pack of X-large eggs a few days ago. They had been $7 two months ago.

Eggs are an important part of breakfast here, too. That's why I'm glad the price has come down.

This is a good news since eggs are very common and it shouldn't be so expensive. As to here, the egg price remains similar for quite a long time already.

Bird flu hit the big egg-laying chicken farms recently, and millions of hens had to be destroyed. The resulting shortage of eggs drove prices sky-high.

Here the price can go up or down depending on the stock available.

We are still suffering high food inflation and since the Government is all talk about reducing inflation not a lot is being done to drive it down

Food price inflation is a hot issue here, too, made worse by the bird flu hitting the egg-laying hens by the millions a short while back. The disgusting thing is that the companies like Kraft, whose costs have gone back down, don't intend to reduce their prices.
