Avocados rippen all at once.

In my country, you either buy a single giant avocado or 2 at an outrageous price, or you buy small avocados by the kilo at more reasonable prices. I think that the small avocados cannot be exported so easily so they are left for internal offer. I bought a kilo of the small ones some time ago and they were hard as stone. I left them in a bowl with some fruit hoping that the still warm temperatures would rippen them. And I forgot about them. When I remembered, they were all ripe except one. I placed them in the fridge and now I´m eating them. It is good that I love them as I will have to eat them in every possible way. This evening I mashed one, added diced bunch onions (a bit) and diced tomato. Olive oil and salt made upfor the rest of the treat. I toasted some of the delicious bread I still have and ate it. It tasted like a sort of guacamole although I don´t have hot chilies. I think it is more that a snack. I´ll call it dinner and will later eat yet another piece of chocolate cake for dessert. What are you having for dinner, friends?

We must get the medium sized avocado. I don’t see a large or smaller size. I like them sliced in a sandwich with mayo and onion.

@marguicha That is the reason small avocados are left behind for the locals to buy

That sounds amazing. I don’t actually know what I’ll have for dinner. Probably something lite since my appetite isn’t large tonight.

They get over ripe so quickly. Here I mostly see them sold small ones in batches of about 6.

@marguicha does that help keep them from getting to ripe once they ripen?

I've tried avocados a few times... I liked them with egg-in-a-hole but didn't like them any other way.

@DaddyEvil egg-in-a-hole has nothing to do with avocados, as I see it.

I will cook meat with broccoli at this dinner, glad to know you like avocados. However this sort of fruit is extremely expensive here, maybe it is because the import fee is high.

What I do to make my avocado get ripe easily is I place them inside the rice container

I wrap in old newspaper and let rest in a bowl on the kitchen counter and they usually are ready to eat in 4 to 6 days.

I wrapped like that years ago but now I don´t have newspapers. So I place them near ripe fruit until they are almost ripe and then to the fridge.

@marguicha We received two free newspapers every week, good to keep the pages to seed plants and to wrap avocados.

I love avocados but haven't had a good time buying them, Usually too hard then too mushy and the taste is never good, I had tater tots, pork patties and cottage cheese,

We also have avocados here in the Philippines. And there are a lot of recipes that I saw that uses avocado. One of the famous is mashed avocado with milk and some ice , it will be a perfect treat and alternative for ice cream too ! perfect for summer and hot weather. I had spaghetti and bread for dinner .

It seems there is a small window to use them before they are over ripe. That is what kind of frustrates me about avocados. They are good for you though.
