Snapshots from Downpatrick Head

The collage shows photos I took at Downpatrick. I’ve done separate posts on the sea stack, the blowhole and the WWII relics. Here, upper left, you can see the lovely little white flowers that were very prolific in the area. Upper right shows some of the dozens of birds that were resting on the ledges of the cliffs. Some looked to be playing in the wind, letting the wind lift them wherever it wanted and not bothering to flap their wings at all. Lower right is a general view of the cliffs and lower left is a stylised statue of St Patrick (that guy went everywhere!). There are the remains of the foundations of a very ancient church and it was once a place of pilgrimage.

The birds seemed to be coasting on the wind currents. How they didn't get dashed against the rocks I don't know.

We were indeed very lucky with the weather. Overall, we were lucky too and didn't have too many really horrible days.

@JudyEv - We had very little rain in April, but at least it rained a bit and it rained during the whole Labor Day weekend.

@LadyDuck That would be annoying for many - raining over the long weekend.

It's a lovely country but I don't think we'll be going back. We're getting too old. Health insurance will go up a lot soon and it's a very long flight.

As far as I can ascertain it was built during St Patrick's time so during the 5th century.

Looks like Ireland has a lot of places to explore. Geographical structures, Sea shores, Rock formations, Ancient places of significance. Plus the places seem to be a good opportunity for some nice pictures for you and Vince !

You got some really splendid shots. I wonder how many species of birds nest on that sea stack.

I enjoyed watching the birds in the wind. It was almost as if they were surfing the wind currents.
