Well, the bad news is the next two songs are country songs. The good news is neither of them sound country. There were lots of country hits in the pop music world in 1963. I don’t know if this one crossed over, but I don’t care. Look who it’s by and you’ll understand why I included it. #6: Guilty - Jim Reeves Yeah, Gentleman Jim’s gonna be on the list. You know it. If anyone is confused about the different in a fiddle and a violin, listen to Charlie Daniels, then listen to this song. And you aren’t going to find any real country songs with an oboe riff and French horn solo in the bridge. But that voice. Holy cow. Lift my feet off the ground! What a voice. Loved it then, love it now, will always love it. Guilty Written by Alex Zanetis Recorded by Jim Reeves From The International Jim Reeves, 1963 Don’t punish me for things I didn’t do:

I love his version of “(There’ll Be Bluebirds Over) The White Cliffs of Dover” on that album.

Heard of Jim Reeves but not this song. I love his voice. I remember he sang Welcome to My World.

Without any introduction, you'd know this was a Jim Reeves song from the first notes on the piano. Listening to him takes me back to the days I'd watch my parents dance in the living room while Jim's albums played on the gigantic stereo system they had.

@FourWalls It is so sad how many greats from that error we lost in plane crashes.

It certainly sounds like country to me. The music made me think is be familiar with the song. So either I only remember the music or it's similar to something else. My parents only listened to country and my husband likes it too although he's branched out a bit.

It was that “Nashville sound” country. Reeves actually recorded more “traditional-sounding” country albums after the success of “He’ll Have to Go,” but RCA put them out on the budget label and kept the “major label” releases confined to the “Nashville sound” stuff. Not that it matters to me, I grew up on his music and I still love it. (If you can’t tell by my myLot name…”Four walls to hear me, four walls to see….” )
