She has no other alternative

My friend and neighbour is looking after her father who is bed ridden. Apart from swallowing what is given to him and the bladder and bowel movement there is no other activity He cannot see, hear, talk nor move himself. He has been in that state for 23 years. She is financially well off and spends a lot of money for his upkeep. She has two full time home nurses that take care of his needs. She also has a CCTV to monitor the activity of the home nurses. She does not show any remorse but I wonder if she would be relieved if he left the world - sooner the better What say?

I would hate to see my loved one linger in such an awful state. I imagine it would be kinder for both of them if he passed on.

At the same time she cannot neglect him in that she cannot let him mess up there and not clean him, she has to feed him and if he shows any signs of sickness she has to consult a doctor .

@AmbiePam She is making sacrifices too for his sake. Hardly socialises. Getting home nurses is not easy. They just leave as what they have to do is not a pleasant job and then she has to look for someone and this schedule goes on.

It is also a choice. Those who could not afford to pay for nurses to take care of him and devices to keep him alive would have accepted their loved ones' destiny. I believe it is difficult for them to let go because they continue to hold out hope that one day new medical treatments will be available for their beloved father.

@allknowingFor me, I suppose they should be respected for their choice as long as they can afford the maintenance and the body hasn't given up. Do you have any idea what brought the patient's condition on?

He is not on any kind of treatment I think but she just keeps him alive to the best of her ability. He is well groomed. His bed is spotlessly clean and he is fed on time to the dot, taken for his bath and so on

You are right many families loose their loved ones since they don't afford such an expensive medical undertaking

23 years? Well she must care for him very deeply I am sure. If she wanted him to move to the next world, would it not have happened already? I admire her for caring so well for him. She could have discarded him.

She leaves no stone unturned when it comes to caring for her father Yes She truly loves him even though it is just a breathing body lying there.

I would think that she would prefer that and, if he had a say, he would no doubt agree.

That is what I thought as well. He would surely want to go too but poor lady she has to do her bit and not neglect him.

@JamesHxstatic I think that will be available even here but I think she is so attached to him in that I doubt if she will take that step.

I know that I was so heart broken to see my mother in that state the last 4 weeks of her life that I was relieved when I knew she had gone. One of my cousin lived like that old man during 68 years. He had his brain damaged when he was born.

Personally, I would think it would be better for the Lord to take him. So to say, free his spirit, Of course, that is totally up to her.

There does seem little point in a person continuing to live in this state. It's just lucky she has enough money for his needs.

I would rather say exist and not live and yes she spends loads to keep him in that condition

@allknowing You're right. It's merely existing, not living at all.

Money is a good thing since it has enabled her to keep and provide the best medical care for her father. And she does this also with care(the monitoring on CCTV) I wish her continual strength even if her dad passed on anytime
