My Wife is At a Cancer Survivor Support Group

Eugene, Oregon
April 25, 2023 10:05pm CST
It goes on from 6 to 8 PM. It is part of the Oregon Cancer Society, not national. There are five women attending the meetings, but two will be absent this time. They were just adjusting to recovery from treatment (surgery, chemo, radiation) when they were diagnosed with MORE cancer. One is only about 30 years old, not sure about the other one. What a terrible thing to happen for those two women. Anne feels terrible for them too. She may have some news about them when she gets home pretty soon.

She is suffering from nausea and must eat bland food. Anne made some very bland rice soup today and we took it too her. It normally has onions and seasonings with parsley or mint on top, but she left that all off. It still tasted good.

Cancer is among the leading cause of deaths worldwide. It's so terrible. And the good thing your wife is in an association which support one another. They are strong women and am happy for them.

Cancer treatment is never easy. I have heard that surgery, chemo, and radiation take a lot of a person. Best to do it early on because a person is too weak in later stages. Hope they have some really good news.

We have a great Cancer Center here where Anne and those other women were treated. I'm sure they have the best care possible.

I hope they will have a recession. Is that the correct term? I hope someone finds a cure soon for this terrible sickness.

Better term would be "hope they are cured."

@Jenaisle Oh, and that word you were looking for is "in remission." I finally remembered.

These days I hear the disease being completely cured. I hope all those in there will experience that soon.

That is certainly quite a blow to the small support group to lose 2 members to the cause which has drawn them together. Hopefully the two will be well cared for, and the remaining members of the group realize how fortunate they are and can support those women as well as each other.

Oh yes, they are getting great care. The younger one is supposed to eat very bland food. Anne made her some Turkish rice soup, she learned about there, but left out the onions & spices. It still tastes good.

That is so sad. You would be feeling so hopeful yet probably a bit anxious and then your worst fears are realised.

That must be so disheartening for them, and at such a young age. When my poor cousin got cancer for the second or third time, she wouldn't take any treatments knowing how bad they were for her before. Unfortunately, she did pass away..
