A violin for a giant

We saw this on the way to Dublin yesterday. I don’t know what it’s made of; some sort of durable material. I made a bad joke about ‘no strings attached’ but actually it does have strings. I snapped this out of the car window but got lucky for once. This afternoon, we might head to a museum of one of Ireland’s national heroes so there’ll be more photo opportunities.

@DaddyEvil I learnt for a short time but didn't really have the ear for it? Did you know you need a good ear to play violin?

I wonder why the artist made such a thing. But interesting that he made it as large as that. Maybe that place where violins are made?

@JudyEv That is true but I guess the artist has his reason for doing such a statement.

Ireland has a huge music tradition. But I can't imagine why this is where it is.

It must be made of durable material to be able to withstand climate change. I doubt that material is wood, or if it is, it must be the most durable one there is.

Anna said it is made of metal so that makes sense.

Is this Violin at a height? Looks quite an interesting concept - if it's placed as a concept here. I hope that your Museum visit proves to be exciting.

Just out there stuck in the ground. Odd. I saw Anna's post with the details. Interesting.

@LindaOHio Australia has a lot of them too. I've heard about some of the ones in America. Here is our giant pink and grey galah. It's in South Australia.

These sorts of 'landmarks' break up the journey. I like them but sometimes it's nearly impossible to get photos.

I guess they just get inspiration from somewhere and away they go making it.

Lovely but I wonder why they didn't make it a whole violin instead of sticking it in the ground.

A whole one would be difficult to place I guess and having it in the ground is a bit quirky.

I love it! I looked up some information about Longford. American cowgirl/shooter Annie Oakley’s husband, Frank Butler, was born in Longford. No word if he played violin, too.

That looks interesting. I'm sure there is a story of why it was made and why it's half buried. Looks mysterious!
