The pointless parent conference is tomorrow

I have no idea why it was scheduled for like a week after the parent wanted one. It is even a PHONE conference so it wasn't like a day off of work was necessary. It will be me, the guidance counselor, and the supervisor of instruction in the counselor's office and the parent on the phone. As I wrote last week there is absolutely no point in it even happening. The student has 3 Fs and certainly won't get an A for 4th marking period. . . and even if they did I would override the grade and fail them. My grades are always up to date in the grading portal and I send progress reports as required. The student isn't going to pass. Period. I don't think I should have to waste my time on a conference that will accomplish absolutely nothing. And here is the kicker. . . I gave a quiz on basic evolution concepts that we have been discussing for like 2 weeks the other day. The student said that Gregor Mendel was the scientist who developed the theory of evolution based on natural selection. Mendel. The dude who worked out genetics. We have been talking about CHARLES DARWIN's work for 2 weeks. If the student couldn't remember that it was Darwin, like seriously what do you expect from me?

Just be as honest as you can. If the student doesn't do the work, there's little you can do.

I will say as little as possible. There's no point.

I perfectly understand you and that can be so frustrating. Seems the student is turning a deaf ear to you, Best of luck with the conference and hang in there,

Open his brain and pour it in with a funnel, all mixed with super glue.
