just popping in for a moment

Today is a day off of paid work for me, but I've still been busy. I'm in the middle of meal prepping and gardening right now, but it seemed like a good time to take a moment to get caught up on here and post a small update.
It's supposed to be 90F/32C here tomorrow, so I'm already cooking for the next few days as well as tonight's dinner. I have a discounted bag of pork steaks in the slow cooker with the ingredients for copycat Cafe Rio sweet pork; the recipe calls for boneless pork butt, but this will be fine as long as I pull the bones out before I shred it. I'll probably use that for burritos tomorrow, or I may give up and just have the kids make haystacks on their plates.
I'm getting ready to plant potatoes and strawberry plants in a few minutes. My youngest and another adult and I filled the planting bags with garden soil, watered it, and we'll be planting as soon as I finish this post. I've also ordered an indoor hydroponic planter with my tax refund and will be using that for growing lettuce for our salads and sandwiches. I haven't had a lot of success with lettuce in the past since it bolts as soon as it gets hot outside, so I'm hoping this is a better solution.
I hope your day is going well. Time for me to finish the planting!

The pork sounds delicious and it wouldn't last long here...
Good luck with your garden. We had a problem with a little fat squirrel eating all our lettuce last year. (We think that was the reason he was a little heavy. He kept coming back to see what else we'd plant for him to eat. I finally put screen wire over the pots so he'd leave stuff alone.)
The spinach bolted as soon as it started getting warmer here but the bell peppers and tomatoes did fine.

Yeah, I think the peppers and tomatoes prefer those temperatures. I have several tomato plants that got ignored last year and they're growing tomatoes again this year... so I don't need to plant any more this year.

@spiderdust One of my tomato plants got eaten up by red spider mites. It never gave us tomatoes even after we got rid of the mites but we had another tomato plant volunteer last year and it did fine.
You're so lucky!

@DaddyEvil I haven't seen any red spider mites in our area, but I have lived in places where they were an issue.

It's better, although it does still ache at the end of a work day. I'm hoping that it continues to improve.

It's not an unheard of temperature around here, but we were enjoying the mild spring weather and dislike the fact that the "hot season" has started.

@spiderdust Sending green thoughts. I still do not see green beans or corn poking through.

I set up the AeroGarden yesterday and the lettuce seeds are doing their thing. We'll see in a couple of weeks how far along they're coming.

I hope all your plantings flourish in the coming days. 90 is quite hot. I hope CA is not looking at 3-digit temps this summer.

I hope not either, but I wouldn't be surprised if we experienced them. I just hope we have fewer fires this summer.

@spiderdust Me too. The fires have been terrible for the west coast and other areas in the US.

It has at least been productive, which I feel good about.

We just finished with planting the potatoes and strawberries, so now we just have to wait for them to grow,
