A man came to my kitchen to measure...

...the crime scene. We talked about tiles, cleaning, sanding and painting. I told him that I was retired and was going to sell the house. I just want some make up; the next owners will want to tear the house apart. The measured and wrote in a notebook. He is Anita´s brother so I won´t mind being alone with him. He won´t kill me to steal my laptop. He will tell me the cost of the damages. I want to do everything in 2 parts. First I want to do the kitchen. But later, when I have some money, I´ll also paint the living and dining room. There´s some soot there too. I hope it won´t be too expensive. }i´m keeping my fingers crossed.

@DaddyEvil Exactly. Now we know each other and he can come when he wants. He lives near my house.

If you can sell it as is where is once you know what it will cost for refurbishing then you will have more peace - just saying It is not easy to get things done when on lives there.

I hope it will not cost you that much money. When We sold our house in Colorado. My two oldest grand children and I painted the whole inside and outside of the house. Not much on the outside since it was a brick house.

It's good that he is going to give you an estimate. If you can think of someone else who can, get at least two estimates, often they are very different. Paint can work wonders to refresh a home.

I´ll do that. The house will look fine after I give a coat of paint to the living and dining room. It will all look very good, considering the age of the house.

@marguicha I agree, paint just perks things up a lot. I hope the costs are affordable for you.

Hopefully the two phase solution would cover the expenses well and not put a single point of burden. Soot look and smell can be quite bothersome.

You are right only doing a bit of "make up" to the house. Those who buy a house almost always repaint and do major changes.

The people who bought my parents´house changed everything. Now new houses look different. They are building now houses that look like boxes.

@LadyDuck I often wonder who was the "genius" who started the trend.

These things are often more expensive than we might imagine but, if you keep repeating the price over and over, it seems to be less. If that's all double Dutch to you I understand.
