Just to Prove I’m Not Kidding….

Many times I’ve said that our tour’s initials, IPT, stand more for “Indiana Precipitation Tour” than “Indiana Putting Tour.”
To prove my point, here’s a photo from this afternoon, during the third/fourth round (all the amateurs and about a third of the pros were on round three, everyone else was on round four). After a morning of sun, here came the rain.
AND the hail.
No kidding. The action was stopped for about five minutes because of the hail (which was, at absolute best, rice sized). It was just enough to wreak havoc on a golf ball, so a weather delay was called.
The rain came and went and came and went and….
But they played through it. (I have an old profile photo at Facebook of me in a rain slicker and gloves practicing for the state finals in Richmond, Indiana one year, so we don’t care so much about the rain.) That’s what we do: we play in the rain and the cold, and we know things.
My putting coach shot a 99 today, tied with yesterday’s winner. Alas, it wasn’t good enough because the guy they could have tied aced (got a hole in one) the last hole to win with a 98.
There was a playoff in the amateur division between yesterday’s winner and one of the world record holders (this course is where the world record, as recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records, for most rounds of miniature golf in 24 hours was set last year…and Tony was one of the people who played for 24 hours!), with Tony edging out David for the victory.
It got COLD when that rain started, so I took my aching back off toward warmer climes.
Despite the rain (which we are used to…in fact, we’re surprised when we get an entire weekend in without any!), it was a beautiful weekend. It was great to see the “old friends” again and make some new friends (we have a player who’s nicknamed “Sammy Hagar” because he does resemble the Red Rocker…and, as he said, he could be called something worse! ).
Our “brother tour,” the Great Lakes Tour, has tournaments in May; however, we’re off until the second weekend in June. It should be raining somewhere by then.

No, they stopped when the hail started. The hail lasted less time than it took to get 39 people off the course, and this wasn’t that grapefruit-sized stuff they had in Texas last week.

OH NO! If there is something I hate is the hail. It can be big here and cause serious damages.
Sorry for the bad weather, but it seems you had a good time despite the rain and hail.
Good luck for the June tour. Here no rain during 14 month, it rained the long Easter weekend and it rained yesterday and today that is Labor Day.

They had gigantic hail in Texas last week, but this stuff we had looked like rice. It wasn’t even pea-sized, which I think is the smallest rating the weather service has.
Happy Labor Day!

@FourWalls - Usually we get hail a few times during summer and the stones are as small as garbanzo bans. Some years ago we got stones bigger than golf balls and those caused a lot of problems.
Thank you, I am doing my things at home as usual and enjoying the rain.

Up here we had a dry day. You should have visited farther north.

We’re not scheduled for your general neck of the woods (Newark, Ohio) until later in the season. By then it should be too hot to putt…and probably still raining on us.

Me too. If not, I can still be there and cheer on the players and take the photos for our Facebook page!

Oh, the hail was really in name only. It barely qualified, and it was so small that I don’t think the National Weather Service has an analogy for it. I think pea-sized is the smallest they have.

It was tiny, not even pea-sized, and it didn’t last more than a minute. Just enough to make you realize it WAS hail.
