Memories of a great dessert

I’ve deliberately tried to cut down on my meal sizes and, just be being older, we also tend to eat much less than we once did. We went out for a meal in Ballina, Ireland, and I didn’t have room for dessert so I asked for a scoop or two of ice-cream. I’m glad I did as look what was presented to me. There was granola (I think that’s what you call it) in the base and a fancy filigree of something or other, a couple of tiny meringues and something that, once I tasted it, was cooked rhubarb. Doesn’t it look delicious? And I certainly had plenty of room for such a lovely dessert. It’s hard to beat ice-cream.

When I saw the photo, I thought the rhubarb was a piece of meat. The lacy thing looks like pretzel to me... I'm sure that was delicious!

I have always wanted to try rhubarb. My grandfather hated rhubarb, but it always looked so good to me.

I think rhubarb is something you'd either love or hate. As kids, we had it a lot with stewed apple. Apple and rhubarb was a pretty staple dessert. It was stewed.

I couldn't work out what the rhubarb was till I tasted it. I also remembered that rhubarb was part of another dessert dish too.

That is large enough to be the main course. It looks like it was full of good tastes and textures. I love fresh rhubarb, it will soon be in season here.
