Another tasty dessert

Here is a dessert that Vince had in Ballina in Ireland. The restaurant, The Poacher, was a very short walk from our apartment and had a menu that made choosing very difficult. I thought they went a bit overboard with their descriptions but hey! who’s going to complain? In the photo is lemon curd cheesecake, with pickled lemon gel, pistachio granola, Szechuan pepper meringue and fennel green sorbet. We will probably miss this restaurant as much as anything else about Ireland but we’ll save money now we’re home. Tomorrow we hitch up the caravan and head for a horse endurance ride to take photos so I might be missing for a day or two.

They are predicting rain which would curtail our photography somewhat but hopefully there won't be too much.

@JudyEv At least it will be a warmer rain than you experienced in Ireland.

@Juliaacv We were lucky and had very little rain on the day. It's raining today but we're home and snug and warm.

That is one of those classy high end desserts that you hear about. It is amazing that all the flavors work in that thing. They are obviously thrilled with their flavor profiles and have to tell everyone about them... Usually things like that include a gastrique of some sort..

@JudyEv Ha, no worries. It's a culinary term. I had to look it up. It means carmelized sugar!

Home made plain cake.
@JudyEv My grandson tried his hand at baking a cake. I had a ready cake mix pack with which he made the cake. He was so happy with the results that he is planning to bake another cake this week. My daughter will be sending him the recipe today and tomorrow I will go to the market to buy all the ingredients.

@vandana7 Oh sorry, that does look like mashed potato but it was sorbet with tiny pieces of fennel in it.

The white stuff is meringue. The lemon pickle didn't really tasted like pickle but had a strong lemon flavour.

For me, I'd take a small amount of say, two of the three main items at a time. Or maybe just a bit of that then a bit of the other.

@wolfgirl569 Fair enough. Restaurants there tended to list allergens on the back page then have symbols for the various items so you might have a cheesecake description and after it something like L, N, meaning it contains lactose and nuts.

Restaurants here are expensive and we thought that, once you converted the currency, Irish ones were similar in price or perhaps slightly dearer.

All of the items mentioned plus the cheesecake. That's a lot of dessert in one sitting! All those desserts got me in the mood to tell a corny joke: Walking home last night, I passed a slice of apple pie, an ice cream sundae, and a lemon cheesecake. I thought to myself, “The streets seem strangely desserted…”
