I Think Mango Must Have Shed

Usually I know because she turns a dull gray color a few days before she sheds her skin, but we've been out so much this week that I didn't notice the change. She's a lot more vibrant this morning than she was a few days ago, though, so that's a good sign that she did. She's the most skittish of our lizards. I don't normally get very good pictures of her because of that, but she tolerated my phone long enough for me to get this one today. Probably has something to do with the fresh cup of food just below her, if I'm being honest...

I don’t recall Mango. Is she new to your family ? She’s pretty.

Yeah, she's our newest addition. I think I got her back in October, maybe?

@Tampa_girl7 She was okay with being next to Cookie's enclosure but she's not impressed with any of the others. They're all mostly solitary anyway, so they live alone.

I think she was... I'd just given her her breakfast.

@TheHorse Hers was a cup of Repashy crested gecko meal replacement diet. Mango-flavored, of course.

She’s an absolutely stunning lizard. Is she sociable with your family? I’m not really familiar with the social habits of reptiles, myself. I’ve just seen cute little videos of lizards interacting with their owners in different ways.

She's actually one of our least sociable lizards. She's a crimson giant day gecko and they're a species that will lose their skin if they feel too threatened, so we don't handle her directly at all.

She is! We joke that it's a good thing she's so pretty because we can't handle her like most of the other lizards we have, but I really just loved her personality in the pet store.

She's very pretty. I'm glad she managed without needing help.

Thankfully she's just fine on her own. She wouldn't handle help very well even if she needed it.

Well, you got a great shot of her this time. Are you likely to find the shed skin?

Not Mango's. She and the leopard geckos actually eat it, so finding anything they leave behind is pretty rare.

@yukimori Isn't that interesting? Maybe it supplies some nutrients they need. Or maybe it is a defence thing - predators don't know that they're around perhaps. We would occasionally find snake or blue-tongued lizard skins.
