Photos bring back memories

I’ve been going through some old photos and inevitably, they bring back many memories. Vince has six siblings. One is/was a nun and the rest are mostly good Catholics. The five brothers have 7, 5, 4, 3, and 2 children. Their sister has one so that was a lot of littlies when we all got together. This mostly only happened on Boxing Day which was almost always stinking hot and a great excuse for a water fight. The kids loved it and the adults didn’t mind joining in too. The photo (upper right) shows a brother, me at the back and a sister-in-law (SIL). The rest are cousins to each other and almost into adulthood. Upper left shows Vince copping a bucketful of water from a SIL. Next to Vince is a niece’s Muslim husband from Luxor, Egypt. I don’t think he knew quite what had hit him when he witnessed his first water fight. Lower left show two in-laws refusing to be put off by the incessant rain (on a different occasion).

That is a lot of children and a very big family for sure. Poor Vince, he did not escape the ice bucket challenge, I remember it was popular a few years ago. We are scanning old slides and also photos that we printed before the digital cameras and the smartphones.

@LadyDuck Oh gosh, that's a lot. It's quite a slow process too. At least, I find it is.

I should probably just keep them all. Whoever gets left with them won't know half the people and will just toss them anyway.

@Ronrybs A lot of ours have gone very red. I don't think it's really worth trying to tidy them up.

I wondered if you were going to show any of the pictures as you sorted them. Thank you. Telling about the water fights brings back memories of Pretty and I engaging in water balloon fights in our yard. Nobody took pictures. I was usually the one getting the water balloons broken on me. We had a lot of fun cleaning up the broken water balloons out of the yard before I could mow, too.

@JudyEv Whether that could have been avoided and still there could be a larger group is what sets me thinking This group is of my sis in law's (brother's wife) family. They make an attempt to meet once a year

Holy cow, you must've gone broke buying birthday presents for all those little ones and then there's Christmas.

That's smart. You'd go broke buying for so many kids.

We didn't buy for anyone outside the immediate family. That was decided early on. We did buy for the two sisters

It is nice that you are taking time to look back and recall such sweet memories. They all look like alot of fun. My family has nuns in it and we always celebrated Christmas on Boxing Day because the nuns were not able to leave the convent on Christmas Day. Of course many years ago, they could not leave at all, and we all had to gather, usually in a classroom at the school that they ran, for our visits.

Times have changed so much since the days of 'closed orders', etc. In the end, Vince's sister was living in the community and dressed in civvies.
