1973 Songs: Rocky Mountain Way

So….was yesterday’s song too obscure? Too pop? Too…whatever? This should fix that. Again, all of this strange mix just shows the wild and wonderful diversity we had in 1973. So, if you haven’t heard it on the radio today, take a listen to today’s song that’s now 50 years old.
Rocky Mountain Way - Joe Walsh
The Colorado Rockies victory song! They’re actually getting to play it some this year, too! Heck, they aren’t even the worst team in the National League right now! (That, unfortunately, goes to my beleaguered Cardinals, still hung over from last year’s victory lap with Yadi and Pujols. )
Why bring baseball in this? Hey, “bases are loaded and Casey’s at bat”!
Joe Walsh has had a long career in a boatload of different bands. There was the James Gang (side note: Walsh was a student at Kent State when the shootings happened in 1970), Barnstorm, the Eagles, his solo stuff, and touring frequently with his brother-in-law Ringo Starr’s “All-Starr Band.” He and Ringo might be the only brothers-in-law in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
And you know this song. That opening riff. Screaming “couldn’t get much higher” at the concerts (not that I saw Walsh solo and the Eagles twice or anything….). The talk box guitar solo.
As I’ve frequently said, this isn’t meant to make anyone feel old, but to point out how enduring and timeless these songs are.
Rocky Mountain Way
Written by Joe Walsh, Joe Vitale, Kenny Passarelli, and Rocke Grace

Gee, I need to go somewhere that doesn’t have US classic rock playing so I won’t get sick of these songs.

I didn't know Joe and Ringo were brothers-in-law? Now that's some cool trivia Ah, Walsh and Denver. Two tributes to the Rocky Mountains and virtues of Colorado. Probably the only thing they had in common
Love that song and Joe's funk #'s too.

Yeah, you’ll never confuse “Rocky Mountain High” with “Rocky Mountain Way.” No matter HOW similar the titles are!

You got me when you mentioned my beloved Cardinals. I had such high hopes for Waino’s last season. He started off singing the national anthem after all! Perhaps one of your songs that you feature will be the kickstart they need.
And while I’m at it: the Angels took the joy and will to live away from Albert in the time he spent there. He admitted until he went to the Dodgers he had forgotten how it felt to want to win, and to chase a championship. His best days and memories are with the Cardinals! Forget your commitment to the personal services part of your Angels contract, and go work for the Cards! I’m willing to overlook you going back on your word and betraying a promise you had no idea meant selling your soul for.
Uh, sorry about getting sidetracked.

I thought, and still think, that Waino should have retired last year. His ERA this year (7.20) is over double his lifetime ERA (3.39), and he’s hurt. He could have had such a great stroll into the sunset last year, but NOOOOOOO (in John Belushi voice).
Looks like the Cubs want to fight the Reds and Cards for last place. (Can’t believe the Cubbies gave up two 7-run innings today. ) Of course, the entire NL central looks pretty stinky, save for the Brewers.
I don’t think there’ll be any doubt that Pujols will go in the Hall of Fame as a Cardinal. He certainly didn’t do anything as an Angel to warrant his induction, except make more money than he should have.
I’m sorry, what was the question again? Oh, yeah, “Rocky Mountain Way.”

That’s understandable. There are a lot of very popular songs that I don’t know beyond the name or the artist’s name because it’s not my taste in music, either.

I can understand, because it really is overplayed. I don’t think it’s the best Joe Walsh song, either (not by a LONG shot).
