Bought Myself a Quart of Blueberries

The reason I bought myself a quart of blueberries, Jay doesn't like them. It had been a long time, since I purchased any blueberries.
The price was $1.59 and I think this was a very good price. I ate all of them in two days, they were delicious! Other types of berries were much higher priced.
The tame blueberries in Tawas City will be ripe and ready to pick in the month of August. These blueberries were shipped in from one of the southern states. It's nice when this happens, but the cost is usually a lot higher. So, I never buy them.

Blueberries are delicious but I rarely buy them. We don't eat them enough to go through a quart before they go bad. I believe there are still some in the freezer, though.

@kobesbuddy When I was young, mom kept blueberries and strawberries in the freezer. I keep watermelon in the freezer. I treat it like I would ice cream. (If you try freezing watermelon, don't expect it to be crisp if you thaw it out. I cut it into cubes before freezing it and don't let it thaw before I eat it. It gets slimy if it's thawed.)

@kobesbuddy That's exactly what it tastes like, too. I froze 12 half cup servings last Summer. I think there are still two or three of them left. It's nice to be able to eat them when Walmart sells those tiny watermelons during the Winter for almost $10 each. I won't pay that for watermelon.

Blueberries are so good! My dad’s wife was going to plant a blueberry bush, but when it started to bear fruit they realized the seed packet had been mislabeled, and they had gotten themselves bushels of blackberries! That’s okay though, with them. They have greatly enjoyed many blackberry cobblers since.
Secretly though, I would prefer the blueberries.

They used to grow wild around the Tawas area, until the city sprayed for pestilence. Now, those bushes are gone.

There are certain fruits that I love but no one else in the family enjoys. Jackfruit, passion fruit and fresh figs are some that I love but my husband and daughters don't touch them. I buy them in small quantities and relish them

@arunima25 I had persimmon one time, but didn't actually develop a taste for it.

I too like the blueberries. I like to take them while they are ripe.
I too know that these things are rich in vitamins.

I can't worry about the price of berries. A bowl of mixed berries - strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries - is part of my daily breakfast routine. It's the healthest food I eat. And I love them. But you sure did get them at a great price. Strawberries were on sale for half price (or more) this week.

Our strawberry season starts at the end of May. There are farms where we go to pick them each year.

Oh my gosh, that's expensive! We have a blueberry farm in Tawas City. The berries will be ready for picking in August and they are sold by the pound.

We all like blueberries but they don't grow well in the soil here, they have to be grown in pots which means a lot of tending and watering. We did get a reasonable number last year but after that the bushes suffered in extreme heat followed by two extreme cold snaps in winter!

We used to have wild blueberry bushes in East Tawas. The roads were lined with bushes, for miles on both sides. My father would pick all summer long and fill everyone's freezer for the winter months.

When they were real expensive, I didn't buy any berries. The packages were over $5, for less than a quart.
